The first meeting of the Counties Council of the United Counties ot York and Peel was held yesterday afternoon in the Council Chamber, Court House. Mr. Elliot, Clerk of the Council, hav- ing called the meating to order, Mr. Wheeler said he had great plea- sure in rising to make a proposition to the Council, which he hoped would be unanimously concurred in by every mem ber present. It was his intention to pro- pose that their old Warden, Joseph Hart- tnan, Esq , be re-elected. Every mem- ber who had been previously in the Coun- cil could bear testimony to the manner in which he performed the duties pertaining to the office ; and he would, without fur- ther remark, move that Joseph Hartman, Esq., he re-elected Warden for the Uni ted Counties of York and Peel for the current year. (Applause.) Mr. Price, after paying a well-merited compliment to Mr. Hartman, said it af- forded him much giatincation to second the motion. Mr. Starrat. then, in a few u maiks, rmoved in amendment that Mr. Price be elected Warden. Mr. Hyde seconded the nomination. Mr. Price thanked the gentlemen who had nominated him to the important ofli e of Warden, but he hoped Mr. Slariat would withdraw his name. Mr. Hart- man’s health was much improved, and he (Mr. Pi ice) felt certain that Mr. Hart man would discharge the duties of the of- fice to the satisfaction of all present. Altera few remarks from Mr. James and Mr. Musson of a highly complimen- tary character to Mr. Hartman, a vote was taken on the amendment, with the following result :â€" Yeasâ€"Messrs. Jeffrey, Howland, Reesor, Marsh, Davis, At instrong, Dr. Hunter, Jones, Price, Evans, (N. Gwill- iinbury) Kuo, \\ heeler, Y\ ardsworth, McLeod. Musson, Evts, Evans. (Albion.) 'Tyrrell, James, Mills, and Craw lord.â€" 21. Naysâ€"Messrs, Starrat, Pei due, Falk- ner, Walker, Scott, Lindsay, Hyde, and Street.â€"8. Mr. Hartman was then declared duly elected Warden for the year 1859. The Warden was then conducted to the chair by Messis. \\ hetlet and Stur- ratt. After taking his seat, he rose and said that he considered it unnecessary to occupj their time in making any lengthen ed remarks, owing to their long acquaint- ance. He must, however, thank them sincerely for the high honor they had done him in again electing him to the office of W arden lor the United Comities, lie felt ccrtain that he would receive the same kindness and courtesy Irom all the members present, which had bet n bestow- ed on him during the lour years just past which he had had the honour to pres.de over them. He lilt thank I ul in be ng able to stale that his health bad very *#uch improved since he had the pleasu v of last meeting ti ein, which would enable him to give a greater amount ot at ten i ion to his dut es. He thought, to save time, they ought now to proceed to business, aud as the new Act permitted the War- den to sign a declaration m presence ot a Magistrate, instead ot going before one ot the judges, he would request the Council to nominate one ot their number to ad- minister the oath. Mr. Price having performed this duty, The Council proceeded to elect a Com- mittee to nominate the Standing Commit- tees for the year. The Council shortly afterwards ad- j0urned. From tho Leader, 27th. The County Council again assembled yesterday, the Warden in the chair. STANDING COMMITTEES.
