CRIMINAL STATISTICS . From the C olonist George L. Allen, Esq, the Governor of the Gaol, has prepared his annual tabular statements in reference to the prisoners committed into his custody during the past year. As usual, these statements are most elaborate, and at the same time. most simâ€" ple, and display a. degree ofstatistical skill and general knowledge possessed by very few public officers, particularly on this continent. The assailant was a man named David, Johnson, who lately kept a .tavern on Queen street, near Good‘s foundry, and the injured party a young ’fellow of the tramp of"'\Vill_iaain Carson, in the employment of Messrs. \Vorthington Bros. It appeaigs that the parties met on the street last night at the hour mentioned when a quarrel arOse between them, Johnâ€" son accusing the other, who is a simple man, ofbeiiig on: terms of Inllvltl‘lllgy with his wife too close to 1,1,1; either agreeable or eiidurablc. ' i It appears that the total number of pri- goners committed during the last year Was 2085â€"â€"nainely, 1120 males, and 965 fe- males. The religious denominations to which the prisoners resliectivrly belonged, are thus stated :â€"~â€"1toman Catholicâ€"£179 pales and 5.89 females; Church of Eng- land-418 males and 316 females; f’i'es- bytcriaiiâ€" 105) males and 36 females; Methodistsâ€"J75 males and 17 females; DANISHâ€"~13 males and females, other deii'niimatiunsâ€"S males and 1 female ; of no 'deiiOiiiii’iatiOii-‘._ZZ males and 4t fe- pales. The number of prisoners sent to the penitentiary during the year wasâ€"‘29 wales and 6 females; 9 males were sent to the iefbrmatory during the year. No females were sent there. There has been very little sickness in the'jail during the year. Only two deaths have occurred. He was picked up in a very forlorn and helpless condition on King Street, his head biiiied in a heap of shim, and nothing Yigil‘tlr but his legs, which stood perpendicularly out ol'the snow pile. The youngiuaii who discovered him in this ‘IIX.’ kindly extracted him from his hawkward position and gave him in oliarge of the nearest policeman.
