ELECTORAL DIVISION EAST RIDING OF YORK AGRICUL- TURAL SOCIETY. _.-â€"â€"â€" F‘rom the Globe- The annual meeting of members of the above Society, took place. at Wideman’s Inn, No. 1, 6th concession Markham, on Wednesday 18th, inst. More than usual interest appears to have been taken in the proceedings, and a much larger attendance than' was ever witnessed at any of the old county Society’s meetings. At eleven o’clock the President called the meeting to Order, and read the report of the past year’s proceedings. Several of the speak- ers expressed strong disapprobation of the conduct of the Sccretar of the Board of Agriculture, Toronto, who, it was asserted had interfered in matters foreign to Ins duties. A deputation was appointed to wait upon the directors of that board, and bringthe same under their notice. To the Members of the East Ridmg (pf York Agricultural Society :â€" ,Thc: oflicers and directors beg to hand past year tor your consideratibn and ap- proval. HE Annual Meeting of the, Parochial.’l Branch of the Diocesan Church Society report to, the board of directors at an early “in by gold in day. Thirdâ€"The financial report of receipts and. disbursements during the year. On assuming Office, the directors found in the hands of their Treasurer, the sum of $190 30. of which there was due to ex- hibitors $22, leaving for the use of the Society, the sum of$168 30, to which was added for subscriptions $133, deposit from the Townships of ScarbOro and Markham, the sum oftliI-lgfl each, There ivas also received for entries at the gui- tumn show sale of mu tickets and ventiie butiom from Mr. Sccov, $144 Ill] The amount received from Government $179 98, making all together the handsome sum of $2,202 44, out of which there was paid {or advertising account for 1858 $4 72, for spring ploughing match $115, and for premiums awarded to bulls and stallions ’37, together amounting to $152, extent of premiums awarded in the spring. Re- turned to McKinnon entrance money $2. Expenses at Spring Fair $5. Prizes awarded at Fall Fair $515,. Advertising account $416 80. Tent and other expenses $7 50. Pi-OpOi'iion returned to Scarboro in terms of anpilgainiiion $95, postage file. $5, together amounting to $973 02, leaving III. the lruids of the 'l‘reasurer $229 42 of the funds of the SOciety, also the sum of $9 due to exhibitors for 1858, pnd dtlt‘ to exhibitors for 1859,â€"a ratifying result of the year’s proceed- firm. This Society lwl-l .i show of bulls and stallions and one ploughing match in the spring to which the township of Scar- lioro Agricultural Soviety contributed the sum of :51, the lllt‘i‘lllltfl's of that Society having like privileges with members of the Electoral dzvisions, the direct- orsof both Societies having equal voice on that occasion. The show of bulls and stallious was meagre, but the animals ex- lnbatcd Were of a superior description. The ploughing match was one of the best i-ver held in the county. 29 entries were innde, the counn-tition was keen, and the .work performed of the host description, the judges on the Occasmn having experienced very great difficulty in deciding to whom the several prizes should be aWarded. The autumn show was also held in conv junction with the Township of Scarboro Today. The terms on which the amal- gamation took place, were, that the Town- ship society should place all its funds at thevdisposal of the electoral division, the directors of the township society being as- sociated with the directors of the county, and having equal power for that show, and the members of the township being permit ted ,to exhibit, free of all charge. It was also stipulated, that should all the prem- iums Offered not be competed for, the funds on hand after payment of premiums 3nd expenses should be divided m min to each, and on winding up the usiness, it was found that the sum of $95 was due to the Sparboro society, which was handed over to the treasurer of that society, and receipt taken for the same. The directors cannot speak too highly of the very ef’fr cient and valuable services rendered to this society by the directors of the Town- ship somety in making the necessary pre- paratory arrangements and working out the whole plan. .The fair itself was a most successful oneâ€"no less than 492 entries having been made, The display of stock was large and of the best description, showing vast improvements, yearly, being made in cattle, sheep, swine, and horses. .Qf implements of husbandry there was a very large display, exhibiting a high order of mechanical skill and superior werkmnn- ship. Of roots there was an extraordinary supply and of the most satisfactory char- acter, showing the increased interest taken in the cultivation of roots in this county. ‘Gratifying as the display was, it known - that the root crop this year yielded less than an average, the quality being inferior owing to the ravages of the grasshoppers. pnd other causes. ' ' Of wheat there were exhibited some splendid samplesâ€"both spring and fall. The directors re'oice to find that the yield pf‘this crop has been a good averagi‘ with. "in the bounds ofthese two tgwnships. Of other grains, such as barley, oats and peas, there were, also, samples of very superior finality. The directors are gratified to learn that the yield oflliose coarser grown were good and prices satisfactory. All which respectfully submitted. GEORGE MILLER. President. Markham, Jan. 18, 18.0.0.
