I , TO THE _ INDEPENDENT ELECTORS " ' OF THE Mllllffljtltlflll GENTLEMEN : You 'will soon be called upon to exercise the elective franchise in selecting a person to re- present you in the Legislative Council. Nominated unanimously by the Conservative Convention, assembled at Bradford on the 2lst April last. further assured by the then abSent delegates, with a solitary exception, of their concurrence in that nomination, and with a promise of a very much larger support from North York, than has hitherto been accorded to a Conservative. I fe‘t it my duty. after eon- snlting with a number of the delegates, assem- bled at Bradford for that purpose, to accept of your nomination and declare myself a candi- date for your sufii‘ages. I beg to assure the Conservatives of the Divi- sion, that this expression of their confidence is esteemed by me a high honor, the more valued because alike unexpected and unsought for, and that no exertion on my part shall be wanting. in prosecuting with their aid and hearty good will, this contest for the Midland Division to a successful issue. At the onset I may just as well declare the fact, that I have no confidence whatever in the present Administration. I speak not of indivi» duals: there are those among them whom I sincerely respect, and “hose attainments. par- lianientary knowledge and political consistency, entitle them to that respect, but as a Govern- ment, they neither possess the ability, the know- ledge. the experience nor the power necessary to the successful conducting of the affairs of this Province. Their advent to power was based upon their vote on the second reading of the Militia. Bill. virtually denying that the defence ol‘tlie Pro- vince required a reorganization of the Militiaâ€"- a vote little calculated to foster BRITISH CON- enc'rtox, and which they theiiiselvos were forced to ignore. before they had been a week in office. Look, for one moment. on the majority of the Upper Canada. section of the Government. How deeply dBIIIUrflll'Ll'G ! No soonerdir! these hypocritical clamourers for Numerical Repreâ€" sentation perceive a chance of office, by abatt- dooing that just and salutary measure (without which, according to their own showing, Upper Canada never can obtain its rights.) than,turn- iiig their backs upon their reiterated pledges, . they hasten to accept the programme of a Pro. mier diametrically opposed to their own views upon that very question. and whose otherwise notorioust LoWer Canadian leanings left no doubt as to the character of the policy of his Administration. . A dispassiot;ate judge pronouncing upon their political proceedings, might doubt whether the moral turpitude of their acts, or their auda- city in presenting themselves for re-election, called most loudly for public denunciation; but there can be no question for the future, as to the reliance to be placed upon their solemn de- clarations, or the confidence to which their acts as public men have entitled them. As a Government, their majority of seven may enable them to make a show of oconbmy by dismissing a few supernumei'ary cleiks from the public departments, to be heroatter replaced by others from their own friends; but to expect at their hands a thorough measure deIM'I‘RENCH inner. ceiiiiiiensurate With the exigencies of the Revenue. Would be an idle dream indeed. My opinions upon the prominent political ques- tions of the day. I‘LEI’RESEN'I'ATION AND Sarit- RATE SCHOOLS, are so generally known, that in alluding to them, it is hardly necessary to say more. than that they have undergone little oi no change. From the institution of our present Common School System in 1842, in the very first enact. merit. Separate Schools formed a part. I then thought and I still think an objectionable ,art. of that system. My conviction is, mature par- ties now must anxious to obtain greater facili- ties for such schools. would IllelllSeth‘S, should they eventually succeed. be found the greatest sufferers from the change they desire. to say nothing of the additional expense to which that change would iteuessarily subject them. .The claim of Western Canada to ,be‘repre- granted in the Legislature in proportion to her Population, and regardless of a dividing line between the Provinces, must in the end prevail, notwithstanding the descl'tiun of its late noisy advocates. The time may be delay ed. through the recreaticy of those to whom‘ her interests me entrusted, but come it must: numbers alone will eventually settle the question and a retusal be no longer possible. Ihave already visited almost every locality in the Division, and received hearty assuraiiCe-s of support front Large numbers of Electors. but it was Impossible to see all. My intention is new to commence holding meetings in the different 'I‘ownsliips, of which due notice will be given. when I hope to have an opportunity of explaining my views upon political matters more fully, and replying, where reply may be necessary, to the otitrageousiy false charges that have been so plentifully heaped upon on. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your Obodlz‘tlt servant. J. W. GAMBLE. Bond “and, Sept 9, 1862. WANTED IMMEDIATELY, LAD about 16 or 17 years of age, to learn the trade of Harness making. Defiantly can we / say. “ No other Machine compares with it in this respect.” [Ionce have we uniformlyâ€"al- most without exceptionâ€"taken the highest yu‘entium, when the Machine has been properly exhibited in competition with other first-class Sewing Machines. Hence is it that we are able to offer the following guarantee. viz :â€" " We ‘Warrant every Machine we sell to give better satisfaction than any other Sewing Ma- chine uow in market, or money rcfanded.”-â€"â€" “'0 never sell a Machine on'any othei terms The guarantee is as reliable as the note ofaiiy business man in the/land. For more than five years have we relied upon such facts for the reputation ofdur Machine , apd without a single travelling agent in thefield. ithere is scarcely a neighborhood on the continent where the Ma- chine is not favorably known.
