Fortunately he was not wounded, and he has Brought off his scalp safe. It is said that he was just ready to start on a scouting expedition when he re- ceived the news of his release from the ser- vice. A short time previous t) his discharge he had been prom!)th for bravery in the field, and gOUd conduct in the camp. Per- haps the title of farrier which he is said to have earned by his own efforts may he as honorable to him as the title of Baronet which he has received from his father. The pay, however, attachedto the two positions are widely d fitment. In Texas he received at one time only $15 a month, increased after- wards to $18 a mmitli-and‘his rations. A YOUNG SCOTTISH BAR- oNET.~0n Saturday last, Sir llew Crawtord Pollok', the oung Scottish Baronet whose mysterious isappearance in August, 1865, and whose romantic trip to the wilds of Texas, hasexcitcd so much curiosityâ€"sail- ed from New York to Glasgow on board the Columbia. It may be interesting to the pub- lic to recall at this time the advertisement, offering a reward of £200 for information of his whereabouts, if alive, or satisfactory proof of his death, which was published in August last. This description is so minute and accurate that it will enable any one to identify him. Since his arrival in New York on Tuesday oflast week, we have gatheer a few facts regarding his career-in this country, and as they fare not discreditable to him, we may refer to them to point a inmal for other enterprizing young men in like circumstances. It was, we believe, in consequence ofsome unhappy family difl‘erencus of opinion of no import,- ance to the public, that Sir Hew dropped suddenly out of sight of his relatives and friends in Great Britain, and turned up, un- der an assumed name, in America. Per- haps he had made up his mind to show that he was able to take care of himself; or as the tarmers in some portionsof the United States say that he could ‘hoe his own row,’ and that he could rise in the world without the aid of wealth to lift him up. At all events, he decided on starting at the lowest step in the ladder of promotion. He en- 1u. uniflinn WVleDIVIDUAL RIGHTS. Joel ‘Vfillialns, Agent for Richmond Hill.
