Messrs Abel and Brown. however after experimenting with gun-cotton saturated with nitro-glycer- ine, igniting it necessarily with the detonat- ing fuse, tried the experiment of ignitlng gun-cotton alone in the same way. The re- sults showed that cotton exploded in this way has, perhaps a greater destructive force than nitro-glycerine. This is a great and valuable discovery, for we hate here the comparative safety ofthe gun-cotton with the tremendously destructive powers of nitro- glycerine.â€"Scottish American.
