A REMARKABLE annexâ€"As two quarry- men were working in the Kitcraft quarry, on the Portland Heights, they had occasion to remove some stone from the “basebed,†and at ï¬fty-six feet below the surface they came upon a ï¬ssure in the rock. 0n ex- loring it about one hundred yards they ound an opening on each side of thirty yards. Proceeding four hundred yards fur- ther, there was an 0£ening to the upper sur- face, through whic the light is admitted. The cavern then extends at least one hun- dred yards further, and is altogether six hun- dred yards in length. From the roof depend beautiful stalactites, many of them two feet and three feet long, and of different tints, some amber and others cream colour. Some curious petrifactions have also been found of fantastic shapes. The quarryan are foolishly breaking off the staluetitcs and selling them for a trifle. 1 N EURALGIA.--If your nerves seem to snap and crack, jerk and jump, and play all sorts of pranks, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, now shooting forth like lightening along one unfortunate nerve, and now trying to tie anothea into a thousand knots, then attempting to make a bowstring of another, sometimes in the region of the heart, again in the face, head, neck, &c. : in short if you have neuralgia. in its worst form, with all the agony distilled to its most ex- cruciating degree, use Dr. J. THE “ Local†begs to tender an express- ion of his gratitude to Dr. Briggs, the Chir- o odist, for having relieved him of a. corn, w 'ch people in a crowd had an ugly habit of treading upon. It was of no use what- ever, except as a natural barometer, for it always made vigorous leaping before astoi‘m. On this account it may be missed, but its ab- sence will not be regretted. The operation was quick, painless, and was not succeeded by any inconvenience.
