_ Regular communicttion of the Richmond Lodge, A.F. & A.M. No. 23, G.R.C. Annual Meeting of the Vaughan Agncul‘ tural Society. In Markham the contest was also very keen, and resulted in Mr. Eakin defeat- ing Mr. Robinsonâ€"the late Reeveâ€"by a handsome majority. The totals show that the Messrs. Lane and Milliken, were elected Deputy-Reeves; Messrs. Robert Marsh and N. Button, as Councillors. \Ve here suhjoin the state of the polls It. the close of the election. @112 gm: gnaw. Monday last, being the close of the election for Municipal honors, our new inflot’poration had quite a lively time. The candidates for the ReeVeship, three in number, (at least two of them.) were active and worked hard. I' r. Duncnmb’s friends, to a great extent, did not support himâ€" hence the very small vote polled for himâ€"but nearly all of them voted for Mr. Law, hence his election. .Tho following is the vote polled at five, RM. : FOR BEEVE 1 NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. Taylor, DD; and at VAUGHAN. The election of this Municipality was not completed, in accordance with the law, as the Clerk did not make arrangeâ€" ments for polling the votes. We learn that many of the electors were at the places named by the Council for open- ing polls on Monday last, but the Re- turning Oflicers did not put in an appearâ€" ance, (officially) at either of the three places, viz: Patterson, Woodhridge and Kleinburg. There is no doubt about the illega‘lity of the course pursued by the Township Clerk on the day of nomi- nation. ‘ The Hon. M. C. Cameron says it is illegalâ€"the HERALD said so be fore M r. Cameron‘s opinion was taken- and we believe that tle electors or" the Township are also quite. satisfied that in pronouncing the old Council re elected an illegal act was perpetrated, which necessitates a new election. Let there be no misunderstanding, if‘ the Council are not legally elected, their acts cannot be legal; it rests with those interested to repair the sad blunder. 51] noxxm mum mz'rwox mason mnsn anuoxn HILL,. The Sabbath Schools which have adopted it are convinced by the past year's experience that the system of one lesson for the whole school, from the Bible down to the infant class, is not only feasible but really adVauta- geous, and far preferable to the old plan of allowing the teachers to select for themselves, from Genesis to Revelations, The idea of one lesson for all the classes in a Sabbath School, and the same les-‘ son on the same day in all the schools In1 a nationality or perhaps in the whole christianized world, is one of but recent origin, yet over three millions of Sab- bath School scholars are engaged eaehl Sabbath in listening to instruction de- rived from the same pissege selected From the Word of God. The portions of Scripture chosen are such as will em- brace the leading'ldoctrines of the Bible, and are given without word or comment by a committee composed of representa-l tives of the leading denominations to all Sabbath Schools, each church explaining it according to its own peculiar views. The lessons for the first qusrtcr are as follows: “The Creation," “In Eden," “The Fall and the Promise,” “Cain and Abell,” “Noah and the Ark,” “The Covenant withVAbrsrn,” “ iscape from Sodom, “Trial of Abraham’s faith," ‘ “Jacob and Esau,” “Jacob at Bethel,” and the quarterly review. . THE INTERNATIONAL SERIES OF SABBATH SCHOOL LESSONS. It will be readily admitted by all that the above is an excellent selection, and as we believe that the adoption of such a scheme of lessons, alternating as it will every six months 'between the Old and New Testament, will conduce much to- ward the success 'of Sabbath School in- struction ; we recommend it without hesitation, and as we also believe that all schools who have any g0-aheadâ€"it~tiveness in themY and desire to avail themselves of the aids which will spontaneously present themselves and cluster around these lessons will sooner or later adopt them, we hope that. mttnv will Commence early and begin with 1873. For the benefit of those who are but partially acquaint- ed with the present movement we will again revert to it in our next issue, re- ferring to its origin, the object of its promoters. and to the advantages to be derived from its‘iutroductlon into our Sabbath Schools.
