Why was the House Disolved ? A great many may not be aware of the reasons that compelled the Ministry to dis- solve the present House, and we propose to give an explanation. Our readers will remember that, at the time of the resignation of Sir John, the charges against him had dwindled down to the only thing of which they could accuse him, that he had used money to carry on the elections of 1872, which he was com polled to do by the Grit record. It will also be remembered that Sir John gave no- tice that he would, on the assembling of the House. move for a Committee to enquire into the amount of money spent by mem- bers at the last general election, and the manner in which it was spent. Mr Blake necepted Sir John's chal'enge. and after- wards, at the banquet in Ottawa, Sir John reiterated his intentions. Now, the imm sculate Grits knew that three-ï¬fths of them owed their election to a lavish expenditure of money. and that they. themselves. were {or gniliier thnn Sir John. And. as a proof of this. did not Mr Mackenzie himself admit since that he believed both sides need money corrupllv. And did not that maroelU) of ï¬nsncial abilityâ€"John Richard Cartwright, our present Finance Ministerâ€"admit that it was money that gained him his seat in 1872? And what, we ask, in the event of I Committee of investigation, would have been 1er position ol'that loquacious individ Islâ€"Henry Herman Cook, M. P ry v r-tue of 522.000? 'l'hcn there is that "poor mnn " up in Mnrquelle, whose r lecticn cost him only $1,900 : mm Wilkes. Bltlln, Edgar, and n host of othcr Grits to the list of those whose dollars purchased them their titles of M. P. Consequently, in order to steal a m -h on Sir J'ihn, the House was dissolved, sn thus the men who condemned Sir John A, Mncdnmrld, because he had authorized the use nfnrorvry had llrenrsrlvr's to dis- he the House, iir order to escape the Ber-utiny of a Committee of investigntion; and, to shield themselves and their creatures, they i put the country to an expense of over $100,- 000. Again, they have been me months ordeavoring. by a certain process of incu balion. to hatch a policy. and the political cowards durst not. announce it to the past Hohse nor now to the people. They are in hopes that by this election they will se- cure a majority of cringing Gritslike Cook, who would follow them, even to the over throw ofthe Dominion. Electors of Simcoe showyour abhmence of the. men who shrank to stand the test of the ordeal which they denounced one of (‘snurln's truest sons, for a deed of which they are more guilty than be. We once had It Cabinet of menâ€"it is now composed of srrant cowards. There was it severe snow 31mm in Salt Lake City on Jun. 2nd, and north through Montana. The (‘cmmilte on Appropriations of the U.
