Clarke The Annual Spring Show of Live Stock, Farm Implements, etc” under the auspices of the above Society, took place at Weston on Tuesday of' last week, and was very numeroust attended. The horses and cattle were exhibited in Mr. Henry Russels Park, adjoining the village and was the largest and best show of horses 'we have ever seen at a local fair. About one o’clock the judges commenced their duties and. as far as we could see, gave pretty general satis- faction. Of‘ imported horses there was a good show, also of Canadian draft stallions. Armstrong 3rd. several toasts were proposed by the Pre~ sident and heartily responded to, viz., “ The Queen,” “ The Prince of Wales and the Royal Family." both of which were followed by a hearty cheer. The “Health of the Judges” was proposed in a few appropriate remarks by the 1st Vicepresident; and was responded to by Messrs. Elliot, J. Duncan and J. Cruik- shank. Next came “ The successful ’ “The unsuccessful com- competitors,’ petitors,” "The President and Vice Presidents,” and “Our Host and Hostess," after which the proceedings were closed. It is thought that. this was the most successful spring fair ever held at Weston.â€"-Frce Press. The Secretary proceeded to road the minutes of last meeting. Mr. E. Sanderson objected to act as one of' the judges on sheep and swine. The motion was carried, and tho min- utes as amended confirmed. The implement department Was well represented, and the various machines excited the interest of the company pre sent. Those manufactured in Wood- bridge were very successful in competing with those of other makers: All the implements exhibited by Mr. Abcll were awarded first prizes; and we notice that Messrs. Brown & Muir’s combined reaper carried off the first prize in com. petitionl With the “Meadow Lark,” a fact highly complimentary to the above firm. Mr. Daniel Snider’s Potato Bug machine excited the curiosity of most present, and recoived no small attention. It met with a favorable opinion From the judges. The following is the prize list : By about four o’clock the prizes were alleawarded and a list of the successful competitors was read from an upper window of the hotel by the Secretary, Mr. Joel lineman. Dinner immediately followed, John Abell, Esq., occupying the Presidental chair,‘ and J. P. Bull, Esq, that of 1st Vice-president. Mr. Ru'ssel’s manner of providing on such occasions is too well known to need any comment here, suffice it to say everything was very satisfactory._ After the wants Mr Lawson moved, seconded by Mr. J. Palmer, Jr., that the minutes of last meeting be amended by erasing the name of Mr. E. Sanderson, and inserting Lhat of Mr. ’l‘hos. Martin instead. Mr. E. An extensively signed petition from Boston, for reciprocity with Canada, Was presented in the House of Representa- tives, on Saturday. Grangers ! A case was decided in b‘ralt last week, which 'is of' general inteiest to municipal authorities all over the country. Dr. Whiting, in December last, was driving" down a hill between Preston and Free- port, when one of his horses shied, caus- ing the carriage to upset, and fall a con- siderable distance, injuring several of the occupants. There was no fence along the side of the road to protect travellers, and it was shown that if there had been the accident would probably not have happened. The action was brought by Dr. Whiting against the Township of Waterloo for damages, and a verdict of $150 was awarded him. In view of the present and several other decisions, it behovcs municipal Councils to protect all roadways, and to leave no dangerous‘spots which, in cases of acci- dents, might involve them in heavy damages.
