The congregation of Knox Church, Scar- boro, and Melville Church,Highland Creek, vacant about eighteen months. had a pastor settled among them on the 9th inst. The Presbytery of Toronto met in Knox Church at 10 a.m.. and heard the trial discourses of the Rev. B. P. McKay, the minister elect- The ordination services commenced at 2 p. m., the Rev. J. M. King, of Toronto, preached and presided ; the Rev. J. Car- michael, of Markham, addressad the min- _ister, and the Rev. M. Macgillivray, of Scaraboro, the people. During the services the church, which is a very commodions one, was full to overflowing , and the audit- ory, manifesting a deep interest in the pro- ceedings. listened wlth close attention to the impressive and practical discourses de- livei‘ed. Meantime operations of a different nature were going on outside. A large shed ad- joining the church grounds was handsomely ï¬tted up and decorated for a banqueting hall, with accommodation for two hundred and forty guests at a time. At 4 pm., the ‘tables were spread, and the people by the "hundreds partook of the good cheer pro- vided. This very interesting and highlv appreciated part of the programme over, all reâ€"assembled in the church, where spirited speeches and excellent music were in readi- ness for their further instruction and enter- tainment. To mention the charucrerlstics of the addresses. and the different pieces of music rendered, even in the briefest possible manner, would take too much time and space. Sufï¬ce it to say that: all was excel- lent and highly 3njoyed by the large number of peOple present. At the close of the evening portion of the entertainment, an address and. purse of money were presented by the congregation to the Rev. Mr~ Mac- gillivray, who was Moderator of Session duringr the vacancy. Mr. Macgillivray re- spondedin suitable terms, after which the entertainment closed.
