One of the saddest occurrences that ye have been called upon to chronicle for along time took place on Monday evening, 15th inst., at Niagara Falls, when a young lady, Miss Jane Sc‘iolicld, daughter of Mr. Francis Schofiold, off I Woodstock, met her death by being carâ€" ried over the Cataract of Niagara. Up to the present writing the body of the unfortunate lady has not yet been reâ€" covered. lt is supposed by many that Miss Schoficld had walked to the etch of the island. and becoming: giddy from the rapid motion of the water fell in. This idea is strengthened by the fact that for sometime she had been troubled With giddincs.. Miss Scliotiuld was a youngr lady oi" remarkable ability. She learned tele- graphy in the Dominion oflice at \Vood- stock, sometime ago, and acquired such proficiency in the art, and displayed such marked ability, that she was ap- pointed to the position of amnnucnsis in the Dominion Telegraph Company’s oflices in Toronto. Sonic few months ago she had to give up her position ow- ing to illness, and has since been staying: at Staten Island, New York State, for the benefit of her health. She was on her way home when the melancholy oc- currence took place. mm Toronto Items. Among the twentysix cases to be tried at the r‘issizo‘, which open on Wednesday, are those of Samuel ll.
