A brutal murder of an old man named Brown, and his daughter, was committ- ed last; Thursday, at West Winchester. Clark, a son of the murdered man was arrested on suspicion, and after .being confined a few daysin gaol, confessed being guilty-of the crime; He made an open confession before the 1two can- stables and the Rev. Mr -Rowat. l'n confessing he stated that he opened the door below to bring his father down stairs; that he struck him with the axe at the foot of the kitchen stairs, expect- ing to kill him instantly and leave him till morning. Having partly failed, his father ran into the bedroom below, where the struggle between them took place, the final and fatal blow being dealt on the prostrated body of his father outside of the bedroom. Just at the door he then saw his sister looking on, and despatched her to cover the crime of murdering his father. lle states that neither his mother nor his wife, nor any other person is implicated. On being pressed to give the reason of his committing the awful crime, he said he could not give any reason. He had thoutht ofdomg it all that day. His mind was strangely acted upon, and a determination to do the deed seized him that evening.
