his birth, without saying a word to any person, left home and ran towards Mil- lard’s woods, and has not been seen Since. He had nothing on him except a flannel shirt and a. pair of pants. As soon as he was missed his parents and others went in search of him, but. were forced to return without him, Parties were out. searching for him during Thursday, Friday and Qaturday, but withont ï¬nding any trace of him ex cept a handkerchief Which he had dropped 1n his wanderings and a frag ment of'his Vest which hzid been torn ofl'iu climbing: a fence. On Sunday morning about We hundred men engaged in the search. Spreading up Yonge Street they termed a line of over half a mile 1n length, and 111 this Form they swent through to the 2nd, Concession 0f'K1n2.mal(1n;;r a thorough search of every inch of mound over which they passed. They then proceeded North and took another strip back with them. The same process Was gone through on the East side of Yonge Street, only in a reVersed direction, the séarchers spreading out from East to West at Holl land Landing, and sweep- ing the block to Newmarket. The search was a thorough one, some four thousand acres having been examined minutely, but without ï¬nding: any trace of the hodyot‘ the unfortunate young man. There is scarcely any doubt at this late date that. he perished during his ï¬rst, night’s exposure, and if so he must have wandered away a great distance, or fal- len into some hole where the searchers have failed to discover the body. A last effort was made on Friday to dis cover the body if possible. Notices were sent to Queensville, Sharon, Hol- land Landing, and Aurora, inviting the cooperation of volunteer parties from those sections. We have not heard the «salt. . On \Vednesday afternoon, 19th inst. one of' Mr Thomas Swain’s, Newmarket, sons, :1 boy about 17 or 18 years uf age, ~who has not been: of right mind since The Warden laid on the table the report of the Committee on Specialities, which 'wus discussed in Committee ofthe Whole. The report concurred in 11 communication from the county of Simcoe in reference to 'a convention of Wardens to consider uniend ments to the Municipal Act, and recommen- ded that the Warden of the County of York he requested to attend such convention. A petition Wus submitted for presentment to the Ontario Legislature at, its next ses« siou praying that a clause be added to the General Road Companies Act eatï¬xing a penalty for neglect. of certain clauses of said Act requiring mad corporations to make returns to the clerk of the county, and a petition to the Legislature for a sum of money for a new survey and detailed estimates for the Enron and Ontario Ship Canal. The report was adopted. Friday Nov. 2Tst. The Council was called to order at 8 o’clock. hat they held a conference this day Especial Committee from the Cor- ration of Toronto in relation to the erection of new county buildings. As the interview was preliminary, and consequent- ly somewhat informal in its character, no speciï¬c action was taken. OpllliOIlS were expressed regarding desirable locations, etc.. which for obvious reasons it would be imprudent to make public at present. Several notices of motion were given, and ‘be Council adjourned to meet again on the [chewing mowing. A communication was read from John Lungsluï¬',auggesung certain changes in the York Roads. REPOSTS 01" COMMITTEES. The Warden laid on the table the fol- lowing reports :ï¬ The Council met at 10 o’clock on Satur day morning; Xhe Warden in the chair. The minmes ot the previous meenng were read and conï¬rmed. Reports of Special Committee appointed m confer with a deputation ftom the City Corporation of '10tout0 on county buildings Yout committee respectfully report as fol- lows :â€" "On the part of the city deputation err- quiry was made as to whether the county would be willing to join the city in putting up buildings of sufï¬cient size and of the proper character to accommodate both the county and city business. Your Committee do not urge any special objection to this proposition so long as that portion belong- ing to the country be kept entirely separate and distinct. Any joint relation calculated to complicate either construction, manage- ment, or maintenance was «not considered desirable by your Committee. Meanwhile it was suggested that the respective Com~ mittees should report to the Councils re- presented that in their < pinion courtly build- ings would have to be erected in the near future, and that the question he laid before the electors at the approaching annual elect- ion to ascertain the views of the ratepayers regarding joint or separate buildings, and other matters in relation thereto. The report oftbe Committee on con- tingencies, recommending payment of sever- al small items, amounting to $20 90, was read and adopted. Mr Williamson submitted a by-law to allow all waggons with tires 3;} inches and over in width to pass over the York roads at reduced rates of toll. The by-law was read a ï¬rst and second time and allowed to stand over till the January session. On motion the Council adjourned sine die. With regard to the following motion :â€" That this Council, after hearing the varinus Complaints against the Ymk roads and their management. hereby testify by their votes that the County Superintendent in their opinion has performed the duties pertaining to his ofï¬ce in a. very creditable manner, which was passed at Friday’s meeting of the Council, it was reported to have been carried unanimously, whereas four at least of the members of the Council voted against. it.
