Jones in the chair. The reyort provided for an increased rate of two dollars per acre in Scarboro’ and Etobicoke, one dollar per acre in Markham, a a decreased rute of one dollar per acre in King and East Gwlllimbury. Mr HastingJ, Deputy. Reeve of Yorkville, said lots on Davenport-road, wee of the toll-gate, had been sold recently to: i 310 per foot. Mr Stokes was of the opinion that : the county of York was fairly assessed. There could always be found some lots assessed too v low, but the committee had endeavoured to equalize the assessment. He could not see why 1 York should be lowered, but it had been (inns and was now to be assessed at $85 per acre. Several members took part in the discussion. after which a vote was taken, when a motion to adopt the report was lost. COUNTY PROPERTY. The report of the Standing Committee on County Propert: was read, after which the Coun- cil resolved itself into a Committee or the Whole * to consider the report. Mr Porter in the chair. The report was re ad clause by clause. The first clause recommended that the Commissioner of County Property shouldinquiro into the security held by the county, indemnifyiug them against liability of damages arising from accidents on ‘ sidewalks and approaches across ditches and crossings in the several municipalities through . which the roads run. The second clause recom‘ i mended the releasing of Mr E Y Crown from the i tenancv of toll-gate No. l on Yonge-street. The 1 third clause instructed the Commissioner to en- ‘ uire into the request of the Corporation of orkville respecting acquiring possession of s. i part of Yonse~street The ï¬fth clause relating to the Toronto and Western tramWay Co., was objected to and the committee arose and asked leave to sit again. .. .. , ,n r__-_-_____r - -.- anâ€.-. The committee on equalization of assessment again reported. with Mr Speight in the chair. The report was adopted, years 21, nay ii. The second report of this committee was presented. It provided that the assessment of Weston should be $167,800 and that of Woodbridge $106,000. A report of the Commissioners on County roperty was considered in Committee of the $11019. i‘AmOng'other things the report stated that the euthori-‘ies of Perkdale had reyeired the Lake Sheree-cad. pursuant to order", and Wodewprfh's bridge on the Plumber had been re- paired. It recommended the erection of s. bridge on the Scarlet-road, a portion of the cost, at about $2,500. to be paid by the County. I FRIDAY . Mr Jones moved for a. return of the expenditure 1 in contesting the Kingston-road Tramway Co. in Parliament and otherwise. Mr Speight said that it was all caused by the ell shod agreement With the company, through w ich four horses end couches could be drivau It 'would not do to disclose the direction in which some of the money was 9 ent The motion was withdrawn. and an omen ed one by Mr Brodie curried. A grant of 31‘ 0 was made to the 12th Battalion for the urpose of sendimy ton marksman to the Prov nniel matches at Ottawa. A report of the committee on roads and bridges, recommending that Messrs Seoor and Foster be made Commiss- ioners for the purpose of repairing a. bridge and approaches on the town line between Markham mud Scerboro.’ was mlopted. as also was a. resolu- tion authorizing the treasurer to pay them the cost of such repairs Mr Speight estimated the cost at 350 to $75 A hy-lew to appoint a county nolioinr at a eteted salary was considered in Committee of the Whole. Mr Winchester sug» nested that the salary be ï¬xed before the soliciv tor be ï¬xed. Several solicitors had spoken to him. They would be willing to accept the post thin if void by fees. Dir Erastus Jackson said the salary should be fixed. and the solicitor should nleo get the l‘osts in cases where he one successful, and then they would not have to pay $3,000 forefow months' work. Mr Jones said the duties of the bv-luw should be defined. Mr Winchester said \he 5 utute granted all corpor- ntlon selnriod solicitors the cost of cases in which the corporation was successful. He moved that ‘he by-lew be referred back to the Legis- lation Committee to define the duties oi the solicitor.â€"â€"Cenied.
