Sucioty,mu1 am much pleased at. GEO. W. STRATHY, Mus Doc‘ J. BROWN. The second volume of the census retorns for 1881 is just. to hand. It deals almost entirely with vital statistics and the occu- pltions of the people. The volume conâ€" tains a good deal of interesting information. That relating to the ages of the people pretty plainly hows that Canada is not an unhealthy country to live in. There are in round numbers, eighty thousand persons between the ages of 70 and 80 ; twenty-- four thousand between the ages of 80 and 90 ; nearly four thousand between 90 and 100; and two hundred and nine that have passed 100. Of the 'centenarians 106 be-- long to Ontario, 56 to Quebec. 24 to Nova Scotia, 12 to New Brunswick, 8 to Prince Edward Islandâ€"s very good showing in proportion to its population'Z to Manitoba and 1 to the North-west Territory. The oldest person in British Columbia. is 95. and there are but three older than 91. The County of Simcoe has four persons, two men and two women, 100. This. taking popularity into account, is the best show-- ing of any county in the Dominion. There are 51 persons living in the county over 90. It is singular that while up to 90 the men are more numerousI after that the women take the lead. The number of men who have passed the age of 50 is one thousand more than the women. The number of women that haVe pissed the age of 90 is 411 more than the men. Only 32 married persons have passed the age of 100, and one of those live in Simcoe. This should he an encouragement to bachelors. Of the married people that exceeded 100, 26 were men and six women. In this country there are ï¬ve married men and two married women that have passed the age of 90. In respect. to 'the occupations of the' people the following is a brief summary in comparison with the census of 1871: 1871. 1881. Agricultural class 479.512 661630 1 Commercial class 75 201 107,646 Domestic class 60.104 71.830 industrial clasa 212.808 287.296 Professional class 39.144 62.974 Not classiï¬ed 143,079 205,228 I 1n the Agrictltuml class farmers increas- ed beyond all comparison with laborers. There are 180,000 fnrtners now in the county more than in 1871, while there are‘ but 40,000 more lubOters, and but a small fraction of this increase is farm ones. The perfection to which agricultural implements are being brought has a tendency to keep down the number of lnborcrs. and besides the opening of the North West has convert- ed many of these laborers into farmers themselves. In thin county there are 8,905) farmers, without counting sixty-three tntnn that nre owned by women. There are 3,5l6 laborers in the county, 73 gardeners. 7 dairytnen, and 28 lawyers. We hnve 12:3 lumhcrmen, and 708 professtonal men of all classes. 0n the “hole the County of ‘Simcoe shows up very favorable. in com- parison with utty other county in the Pro - viuce.â€"â€"-Advancc.
