Before we again issue, our National Holiday will have come and gone once more. Many are the attractions offered for pleasure-seekers to spend the day in a proï¬table manner, as nearly every town and village in the Dominion intend holding some kind of a demonstration. Richmond Hill is excepted,as no amuseâ€" ment of any kind Wlll take place, which will give the inhabitants an opportunity of visiting our sister villagers, and have a good day’s enjoyment. A paragraph appeared in the Globe on Tuesday to the efl'ect; that. some miscreant had entered the premises of an aged couple living on Dover-Court road and had stolen all the chickens and poisoned their cow. It appears that these dastardly acts are. be- coming frequent 1n the vicinity of Toronto. A short time ago there was a similar 00-- currence in York Township, at the house of John liorrtliffee. During the night some thieves stole between ï¬fteen and twenty hens, and the next day the dog died, and the following day a pig belonging to Mr Routliti'e died, so that the inference is that. these thieves dropped poison to quiet; the dog, and the pig also eat the poison. This is it most dastardly trick, and it has become so commonthnt people should be on the locknom for the sconndrels. If they are captured they .shonld be punished to the fullest extent which the law will permit. We gather from the city press that the preparations are very near completion.. The citizens have opened their pockets in a liberal and generous manner for the purpose of. making the display a credit to a city like Toronto. Everything we presume‘ will be done for the convenience of those coming from adistance. It will be a‘ very great drawback indeed, if suflicient‘ accommodation for visitors is not fully assured, as also to prevent evil and deâ€" signing persons from taking advantage of strangers.
