HALL. l iIt may be all fancy, but your corres- l'pondent thinks that once a Canadian ‘erosses the boundary line between his own country and the United States he notices certain things which would show himâ€"even if he were not already aware of the factâ€"that he is no longer amongst the steady, sturdy, slow, easy-going, plodding. persevering. mindâ€"your-own business, kind of people which are found in Britain and generally in Britain’s Colonies, Of course, the people at both sides of the line are chiefly Anglo Saxon, and speak the same language, and dress in the same fashion ; if you ask a question, too,you will be answered quits as politely here as there, and the ofï¬cials on this side are quite as courteous and obliging as those on the other. But here the people seem to have a'free and easy Way (with them. a sort of independence about them, or rather, perhaps, a sort of careâ€" lessness, which one does not often see in Canada ; and, moreover, things seem to be done with a rush, and a bustle, and a rapidity, which are enouoh almost to take one’s breath away. for example, the road from Lewiston to the Bridge runs for a great part of the way by the verge of an appalling precipice, along the bottom of which rolls, and foams, and seethes the mighty waters of Niagara: and yet: the trains run with a- speed which is frightful. But in a little while, in" spite ofail your fears, there you are safe and sound at the terminus, and hear the conductor’s voice, crying: out, “change ears for Buï¬â€˜alo. New York, &c." Having. half-an-hour to spare we have a look at the whirlpool and the cataract; then on board again; and our last glimpse of Canada shown us peace- ful homes in sequestered spots, romantic vales sombre in the a†reaching shadows of night, and woodefhil-l-s with the tree tops reflecting the rave of the setting sun, whilst Lake Erie spreads out be- fore as with all the calmness and brightâ€" ness of a polished mirror. All along the way the towns and villagesâ€"so far as we could judgeâ€"seemed to be exceedingly neat and clean, and in the suburbs of many of them 'were beautiful residences, the grounds of which were bright with flowers and presented a very charming appearance, Arrived at Buffalo we ï¬nd we have to separate; indeed one of our party We had to lows at the Bridge, her ticket re- quiring her to go by? another route; but at Buffalo our young friend from Aurora has to take the “Test Shore R.
