In the second innings Pcnrose madea home run first thing and was followed by a two-banger by Atkinson, who stole third and reached home on an error. The Young Canadians were good at the bat and two and three base hits were numerous, while their ï¬elding would be hard to beat. Sanderson's pitching was too much for the home team, who, with the assistance of catcher Hennessey, succeeded in keeping the score down. However, this kind of thing did not last long enough, for in the sixth innings Thornhill succeeded in making agood score on errors, and in the eighth and ninth innings Richmond Hill scored 0,0. The home team retired in the eighth with a goose-egg, but in the ninth, as- sisted by a continual shouting from the spectators and the decision of the ï¬eld- umpire, managed to make the score even and 1 in their favor. Had our boys played careful in the last innings instead of getting butter-ï¬ngered all at once they would have won the match with ease. Although the whole of Richmond Hill’s nine did excellent work we wish specially to mention Penrose, McLean, Sims, and Atkinson. After the game was ï¬nished both teams reâ€" paired to Doyle’s dining-room where a splendid supper was prepared for them. Mr. Chas. Pilgrim acted as umpire at the bat, and Mr. VV.E. Millner ï¬eld umpire, both, on the whole gave satisâ€" faction, hnt one of Thornhill’s men did considerable talking towards the last. Our boys wish to return thanks for the gentlemanly way in which they were treated by the Thornhill Club. BASEBALLâ€"The baseball match of the season was played at: Thornhill last Saturday afternoon, between the Young Canadians of Richmond Hill and the Thornhill Club. Play was called at 2.45 and the game lasted about one hour and ï¬fty minutes. during the greater part of which time the spectators were given a splendid exhibition of “ball playing,†especially by the visitors. The home team took the ï¬eld ï¬rst with Muldoon in the box and Ellston behind the bat, and succeeded in keeping their opponents from scoring in the ï¬rst inâ€" nings. CIVIC HOLIDAY.â€"â€"In addition to line suggestions given in last week’s issue as to how Richmond Hill should spend its civic holiday, we would mention that of getting up a grand Baseball and Lacrosse Tournament.
