Mention this paper when sending for “ Treatise.” No. 23 SAD DEATH.â€"Seldom has it fallen to our lot to record so sad a. death as that of' Mr. J. T. Porter. He was struck down in the vigour of manhood and at the opening of what promised to be a career of renewed business prosperi- ty. On Wednesday of last week he went to Toronto, and having entered the wreng train at Brock street station. when returning, he had to run two miles to catch the proper train at Parkdale. This exertion at a time when he prob- ably already had incipient influenza, re- sulted in his feeling ill before reaching Orillia, and there being no hack at the station, he walked to his home, which he reached quite sick. Mrs. Porter promptly summoned medical aid, but he grew worse, pleurisy supervened, and he died Sunday night. He had been known and liked by the people of this district nearly twenty years. He first came here as a clerk to Messrs. G. M. Wilson, Thompson & Co. He after- wards established a good business at Morrisburg, but subsequently returned to Orillia as manager for Mr. Frank Kean. Next he entered into partnership with Mr. 0. Moore, and after about two years purchased Mr. Moore’s interest Since then he ha succeeded in cultivaâ€" ting a rapidly growing trade, and only a few days before his short sickness he moved into larger premises. He leaves a widow and four children. Though so long a prominent member of our business circles, Mr. Porter was only about thir- ty-seven. In compliance with the wish of his widow, the body was buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery. The Protestant burial service was read at the residence, according to the Ritual of the Methodist Church, by the Rev. G H. Porter, M. A. , brother of the deceased, and the funeral procession was led to the cemetery by the Rev. Mr. Porter and Rev. Father Campbell together. There VIoK’s FLORAL GUIDE is one of the bandsomest catalogues published. The illustrations are intended to give the reader a correct idea of the plant or flower illustrated. The grossly exagâ€" gerated, absurd pictures which deface so many catalogues and reflect upon the‘ integrity of those who issue them, do not appear in this. The list of potatoes is good, and several new kinds are offered, among them the Early Market.
