Miss Simpson, of Newmarket, sang several selections during the evening and won the admiration of everyone. STRICTLY LOYAL.-â€"â€"We notice The Steele Bros. 00., Seedsmcn, King Sbil Toronto, have in their Catalogue hoisted the Canadian Flag, with the motto ” Quality First ” and have nailed it to the mast. ROLPH BRECKEN.â€"â€"Last Sab- bath the annual Minsionary sermons were preached in the Methodist Church, here, when large congregations were present to listen to the able discourses of the Rev. Rolph Brecken, of the New Brunswick Conference. In the morning he read a lesson from Isaiah the 35th chapter, and addressed his congregation on the words : “ Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us ? Then said I. Here am I; send me,” found in the 6th chap. and 8th verse of the same book. In the evening, instead of preaching: a sermon, he delivered an ex-â€" cellent address on foreign missions. dealing at length with the work since its commencement up to the present day, and showed the great necessity of carryâ€" ing on this work with still greater force. The subscriptions and collections, we understand, amounted to over $99.00. On motion it was resolved that a committee be ap- pointed to solicit subscriptions and special prizes both in the city and villâ€" age. NOT RIGHT.â€"Wc understand a few days ago two representativcs of the meek and lowly Saviour of mankind. who when he was reviled, reviled not again, met by accident at the Thornhill post ofiice when some strong and forcible language passed between them. We should be glad to have a correspondent at Thornhill, for it is evidently growing in interesting scenes if not in population. It will be understood that at the concert “to take place on the evening of that day, persons having tickets for the Fair will be admitted without extra charge. In all civilized countries snoring is considered lawful food for mirth. Mr. Hutchison need not become “wild” at me. I also'confess thatI made fun of Mr. Hutchison’s remarks on breathing. because they were a square million of miles from what was, prot'essedly, his subject. His article was just like one of those which you see every day in the papers which begins with an account, any of the Falls of Niag-- era. the Pyramids of Egypt, or the Battle of Waterloo. You read it with the greatest interest, but. before you know where you are, you find yourself face to face with some inimitable soap, soothing syrup, anti-- rheumatic Oll, hair invigorator, or baking powder.
