An order was made in chambers for payment of $15 a. month to the wife as interim alimony. Mrs Clarke, of Fuirbank. in the town- ship of York, sued her husband for ali- mony on the ground of dcsertiun and ill- treatment. A few weeks ago Mr. Fred. Gilchrist and Capt. Robins’ son left Port Hope in company for the Norih-West, intending to settle in the Qu’Appcllo country. Fred. took with him a yoke of oxen and a. lot of other goods, which he shipped as far as Brandonâ€"he could not get rates any further. From Brendon to Qu’- Appelle station, ninety miles, the Canada. Paciï¬c R. R. Co. charged him as much as it had cost him from Port Hope to Brandon. which cleaned Fred. nearly out of cash. Then to add to his trouble, his oxen strayed away and got into an “over- flow †or slough, and in trying to get them out he would most assuredly have lost his life had it not been for the heroic efforts of young Robins, but the cattle were both drowned. and poor Fred. is now left without money or team. He has located a quarter section, but is now entirelv helpless. Some of his friends in Port Hope are interesting themselves in raising n'mney to get him another yoke of oxen. We hope they may be successful. â€"Port Hope Guide. The Ontario Government Seizing a Mil- lion's Worthiof Timber. The Prince Arthur’s Landing Herald of April 25 says that during the past Winter the Section B company got out over a million dollars’ worth of lumber in the disputed territory, for railway building purposes. They took outxover 1,750,000 ties alone But the Company got no license from or paid the Ontario govern- ment any money, and the latter have instructed their inspector of the lumber at the landing, Wm, Margach, to ieize all the ties and lumber in the question. Mr. Margach took the train as far as Sav4nne, from which place he will take to the woods and seize everything that has been cut, posting up notices that anyone touch- ing the materials will be arrested and dealt with as a. person would be for steal- ing.
