Ayer's Cherry Pectoral, asv proved by forty 5ears' experience, will cure this disease when not already advanced be- yond the reach of medical aid. Even then its use afl'ords very great relief, and insures refreshing sleep. Mrs. D. Morrison, Famham Centre, P. Q., writing about Dr. Thomaa’Eclect- ric Oil, says: Gem'ge Bell used it on his sun. and it cured him of rheumatism with only a few applications. Mr. Robert Stubbard, Thistletown, was robbed on Christmes Eve by three masked mentwho entered his hou 8 with revolvers l and Bowie kniVeB. Mr. S ubburd is Ill, and i had gone to bed early. The robbers entered the house at midnight, and threatened blood- shed if they were not given 81,700, which it was supposed Mr. Stubburd had received for cattle recently sold. rI‘he money had not arrived, however, and alter dragging Mr. Stuhbard out of bed and searching the mattress and bed clothes, the robbers were finally induced to believe that they had been “ too previous." They took what ensh was in the house (about $11), and decnmped, leaving the family not a little frightened at the intrusion. The mutter has not yet been placed in the hands of the police. The case heard a suspicious resemblance to that at Bloomingt‘on. which resulted in the shooting of Mr. Lazier. DEAR Sm.â€"Permit me through the columns bf your pfi'per to refer to certain reports that ale,‘ being circulated by in- dividuals concerning myself. It is being stated by certain individuals that I have a wife living in Barrie. I take this op- portunity of most emphatically denying such a statement, it being utterly false. I would also say that if there are any persons who have anything to say against my or who know more about my Hnsiness than I do myself, let them come forward and say it above board’ and not circulate such untrue and slanderous reports. ' CHAS. LAWLER. Richmond Hill, Jan. 7th. ’84. Contrary to expectation our Village Council are not to be allowed to walk over. At the nomination a. set of .new men were duly nominated, all being elect- edg except Messrs. J. Bull and B. Plow- msn, as Councillors. It. is imposible at present to predict the result, the new men being actively supported by those opposed to incorporation and those op~ posed to building a ball, as well as the whiskey interests, on account of the present members of the Council raising the licenses last year. ‘ gentlemen were nominated, there, . being two vacancies to fill. A poll having been demanded-and a returning officer duly appointed, such appointee not being present at the meeting by some bungling on the part of the Secretary he received no notice of the appointment, consequent» 1y, on the day appointed for pulling there was no returning officer, and an adj‘nnrn. ment had to be made until the 12th inst. (From our- own Correspondent) Mr. W. Warren. who has been a. resi- dent, of this place for .over thirty years, has removed to Avening. He will be greatly missed, as he has been an earnest worker in the Sunday School, and also leader of the church for a. number of years. We wish Mr. Warren every sue-v cess in his new home. (From our own Correspondent.) In this village on the morning of the 5th inst., a house and workshop owned by Mr. McDonald, of Purpleville, were burned to the ground The house was occupied by three tenants, viz., Messrs. Thor. Readman, J. Ireland and Jan. Lo 0 The fire occurred about 2 o’clock in the morning, when the village was wrapt in slumber, therefore very little of the fur- niture, etc., was saved. Mr. Redman particularly, who was occupied at first with getting his sick wife to uhelter, lost heavily. The origin of the fire as far as can be ascertained was a. defective chim‘ ney. Mr. McDonald looses heavily, as the houses ware not insured. A shooting match was held at A. Mc- Bride’s hotel, King station, at which two of our village sportsmen succeeded 'in winning almmt all the game. (From Our Own Correspondent) KLEINBURG. WESTON. LASKAY. ags, Charity.” The past two weeks have given us pretty severe weather, considerable snow falling and high winds prevailing most of the time. On \Vednesduy and Thursday of last week the wind and snow almost completely bloc-l:- aded the roads, all of those running north and south having to be shoveled out. But nothing that we have had for years has equalled in the same time the fall of Tues- day night last On Wednesday morning the people awoke to find themselves litei'sllv snowed in The majority of our citizens had to dig through banks from two to four feet deep before they could get out We are in- formed on pretty reliable authority that there were almost three feet of fresh show where it had not drifted on Wednesday morning Majority for Cookâ€"206; Majority {or EX- hootâ€"~137.‘ ‘ r The annual Missionary serum in eon- nection with the Methodist Church will be held on Sunday. Rev. J . W. Totten‘ will preach in the morning, and the annual meet- ing will be’ held in the evening, when Rev. Orrin German, of Oxford House, N. W. '12. will deliver' an address. Mr. German has spent many; years among the Indians of the 'Ngj‘th.W(-_)hb& He in at present engaged translstl’ug portions of Scripture, hymns and educational text bo‘o'ke'ln the syllable lengu-l age for the use of the Indians at Oxford House and other ports of the North West. No doubt his address will be interesting; as a men’s own narration of what he has seen and passed through is alweVs interesting. Rev. J. E. Starr, in speaking on Sunday of his vlait'tb the meeting of the Salvation Army at Newmarket, said he wished they could have just a little touch of the Salva- tion Army introduced into the Methodist Church. He would not desire the whole of t neir methods adopted, but just a touch of their energy and zeal. It is probable, from the reports and prospects, that his desires may be gratified. as it is stand they will loan invade Richmond Hill, but as the forts of the enemy are unusually strong. and his allies unusually numerous and active, it is not probable they will capture the barracks quite as easily as they do many places. The original and only Beedles and Prindle Pleasure Party, Silver Band and Classic Orchestra, announce one of their grand perh formances to be held in the Temperance Hall, Richmond Hill, on Saturday eveninp, Jam-12th. It is needless for us to speak in commendation of this company, as their merits to entertain the people are well known and the mere name of Johnny Prindle is in itself sufiicient to draw a crowd. It is full of sparkling fun, profusely illustrat- ed with humorous cuts. The "Easay ' by little Tommy.” given in that precocious youngster’s own handwriting, with pictures by himself, are unique specimens of comic work : the weather predictions are racy as usual, and the general miscellany is excellent.
