Toronto, intend renting the Victoria Hall in which to carry on some meetings. We sincerely hope they may have more com- mon sense than to come to Thornhill as we have as many Ministers and Church- es to sustain now, as we care about. We notice that public opinion has greatly changed with regard to it. It is only now being found out, by the different Denominations, that the Salvation Army is beginning to develop into a distinct Religious body, having Churches (Bar- racks) of its own and preachers at paid salaries. Now we are of the opinion; that since union is being consummated. that for another church to spring up. so similar to the Methodist Church, is noth- ing but, a. down right humbug. The Army may be doing good work and we do not doubt but what it is; but we say let it do its work like an Evangelist and 1 Mr. Robert Cox is busily engaged in digging a cellar in order to be prepared for the erection and rapid completion of his new brick house. From Our Own Correspondent THORNHILL LASKAY. nice fish-caught present. COH- I am sorry that the young gentleman of this village do not find our evening service more attractive for I know it must be a great inctmvenience to them to travel so far south for the purpose of hearing a. fresh sermon. The farmers have gomnwnced seeding in this Vicinity. The fall when}. lunks well and grown rapidly fur the past few days. Last Sunday our village gents were completely eclipsed by the appearance of two young gentleman from Richmond HI”. Of course Messrs. F. G. and F. M. are now the chief mash for the ladle: in this vicinity. From Our Own Correspondent It gives me unbounded pleasure to state that a happy reconciliation is grad- ually taking, place amongst some of the most conspicuous performers in last win- ter'a drama, and uVeryone has assumed the appearance of “ peace and good will." Quantity in medicine is no indication of value. Ayar’a Sarsaparilla is concen- trated and powerful ; requires a. smaller dose, than any other Sarsaparilla. It is the best of all blood medicines. It will be a. source of great pleasure to some of our citizens and also to some in the surrounding country to be informed that the side-walk between the centre of the town and the station has been repair- ed. It is one of the greatest benefits that has befallen our town tor many a day. Mr. James McBride, one of our esteem~ 0d citizens, who lately had two ribs brok- en by a. horse qteprpring on him, is recover- ing rapidly and vii“ saon be able to beg‘iin work again. l I think being a staunch supporter of ‘ law that it is my duty to notify the pub- lic, through the medium of your illustri- ous weekly, that any young gentleman or gentlemen standing around the Post Office are not to be taken for the propri- etor thereof. You may think the user- tion which I have made is without foun- dation, but I will rater to an incident that took place last week. A young gen- tleman having occasion to call at the Post Office was standing on the veranda]: when a yonng lady mistook him lor the Post-boy. Such a mistake, of course, aroused the feelings of the youth who was by nature inclined to be nobby. ‘ Mistakes of this kind should be avoided as far as possible A fashionable wedding took place near this town on Thursday last; the happy couple being Charles Rumble and Miss Clement. From what I have heard the public are unanimous in wishing them a long, happy and prosperous life. Leading Druggists on this continent testify to the large and constantly in- creasing snles of Northrop & Lyman’e Vegetable Discovery and Dyspeptic Cure, and pronounce its beneficient effects upon their customers troubled with Liver Com- plaint, Constipation, Dyspepsia, Impur- ity of the Blood, and other physical in- firmities, and as a female medicine, it his acomplished remarkable cures. Gardening operations with 3.11 its pleas- ures present and prospective are now the order of the day. The pleasures of Gar- dnern, however, are not without the aloy especially is that the case in this village. The hens being of the most industrious character that I ever met and I trust pe- culiar to \Veston. John Duggan, the young man who lost his hand a few weeks ago, is progressing to convalescence rapidly. He expects to resume his position in a. couple of weeks. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SUDDEN Dianeâ€"Thomas Sutton 3 young man employed at the Woolen Mill died very suddenly on Saturday last, at his father’s residence, the cause of death being paralyses, the result of an accident on the cars while returning from the EL hibition at Toronto in 1880, as may be remembered by your readers. When a short distance west of Union Station, being on the rear platform he leaned over to look at some object they had passed, his head struck against one of the pillars of the Bathurst St. bridge fracturing his skull. He lay unconscious for some days until a portion of the bone pressing on the brain was removed, he then recover- ed rapidly and has since enjoyed excel‘ lent health and found no inconvenience from the opening in the skull until about ten hours before his death. About three o’clock in the morning he awoke his mother. complaining of pain at the base of the brain. Charleton was called at once and did everything that medical science could suggest but he continued to sink rapidly and died as above stated. VICTORIA SQUARE. Mumps are very prevalent, and no doubt the scholars of our school wish that all the teachers would get them and then they Could fish without a hindrance. The assistant teacher of Pine Grove school has been sick for some two or: three weeks, but Mr. Franks, the princl~ pal, will not let the scholars havem chance to fish, for he hu the whole school under his control. In parading the streets it seems very much like the Woodbridge of all to see the Monireal House doing business as formerly. Internally the improvement has made a. very great change, and the- stock, all new, is worth examining, The new store. one door west of the! From Our Own Conespondmc. The revival services in connection with the C. M. Church, after a duration of eleven weeks, have come to a close. During the services there were about 125 avekers for religion; of these about eighty joined themselves to the O. M. Church, and it is likely that others will unite. The church for some time past did not seem large enough for the congregation, and now it is entirely too small. The Methodists have the largest congregation and least accommodation. Your corres- pondent thinks they ought to put forth an efl'or_t to build a new church. VAUGHAN COUNCIL. cling or the Oltnrio License Commissioners. PRO VI N 01 A L PERMITb. JAMES M. LAWRENCE.
