Ii scene took place in the centre of the vil or, which would scarcely have been allowed in rt place where the inhabitants are only partially civilized. Two small boys about ten vears of age were engaged in a fight. which. with short intervnlav lasted about Pu hour. Much as the boys were to blame. the large number of men who stood around, apparently enjoy- ing the sport (7) were iar more guilty. whnsv presence seemed to encourage rather than intimidate the young pugilists. At last they were separated by a gentleman posseunina more courage than the other on-lookern. Only a few nights previous_ two very small boys were given five cents each to engage in a similar contest. Surely this is a poor wav to encourage the rising generation.
