Bengough and Company drew a. good crowd to the Masonic Hall lust Thurs- day evening.‘ The programme, as previous- ly announced, was given with very few vari- ations. The entertainment for one of the description was all that could be desired. The appreciation with which the vocnlzsolos of Mrs. Fox,uccmnpnnied by the guitar Wen- received, was manifested by the applause n i the audience. She sang the popular and difï¬cult “ Cuckoo Song," and thunï¬h not given altogether in a Caldwell manner, it was very pretlily executed and much admix- ed. Mr. H. M. Blight appeared sevm'al times, and his selections. his voice and lllS general style gave unqualified satisfaction. He has a clear, strong baritolue voice, which is capable of ï¬lling a. much larger Hall than that in which he sang. Mrs. Blight played the accompaniments, as well as an instru- mental solo, and her contributions added much to the exce lent programme. Mr. Bengough gave a. song in which he mimicked to penfeclion the agony displayed by FOer of our modern vocalists. This drew forth an encore. His chalk talks giving some startling facts about Canada, as well as: the Emigration Lecture, were very amusing. Severn] sketches of local individuals were very cleverly executed, considering the short time the cartoonist was in the village. Fi- nancially the affair was a. success, and we believe. both the audience and the perform ers were Well satisï¬ed with the rcsult. In connection with the factory, where custom sawing le be done. The head master handed in a report respecting High Schooh fees, which was read. Mr. Keefler sent in a. communication asking the Board to erect a suitable fence between his premises and the school grounds. 'lhe question in reference to better terms for the outside parts of the section was then taken up. Mr. Brown ask- ed if the outsiders felt inclined to accept the proposition recommended by the village, viz, that the village pav g of the taxes leaving g; to be raised by the outsiders. On motion Mr. D. Boyle was heard on the subject. He thought the outsiders should not be asked to raise more than of the taxes. ~Mr, Duncan was of the some! opinion. The following motion was afterwards put and carried, Tlmt this Board request the assessors of the different municipalities to meet after they have completed their regular assessments, and eifect an arbitration between the villuge and outside parts of the section, recommend- ing‘thet the taxes to be hereafter raised be 3 undg; respectively. l‘he meeting then ad- journed.
