The train left King station at 7 a. m. The “Enterprise†was boarded at Barrie at 8.45, landed at Big Bay Point at 10. The ï¬rst amusement consisted of preparing dinner and partaking of the same. Then followed races. The sack race created a great deal of merriment. A race was then made for the sail and row boats, all of which were occupied the whole afternoon. Messrs. Davis and Perry of Kinghorn took great pleasure in giving the llttle folks a. boat ride. This point is a grand summer resort. A great many buildings are in the course of erec- tion. The scholars were wild with excite- ment. The query with the little ones wars, will they come back here next year I The party arrived home at 9 p. m. The remains of Mrs. W. Cook, were followed to their last resting place, by a. large number of sorrowing relatives and friends on Tuesday last. Mrs. Cook was apparently hearty and well up to noon on Thursday, when she was taken suddenly with convulsions. She expired on Sunâ€" day morning. Mr. Cook has the heart.- felt sympathy of the neighborhood in his sad hour of bereavement. According to posters the annual straw- berry festival was held in the drill shed, on the evening of the 23rd inst. On ac- count of the inclemencv of the weather the gathering was mnch smaller then an- ticipated. The performance was enliven- ed by sweet music discoursed by the Silâ€" ver Band of Aurora. The chairman stated that the association was approved of by the Council of King. In Ins opinion it had hem very advant- ageous in promoting farming in King. It was quite noticeable in travelling through the country, what sections took part in the plnwing matches. A good many people are wondering what brings that young doctor from the east to our Village so often. Some even venture the remark than he visits the sx all as well’s the ai‘ck; Next Sunday morning and afternoon the Rev. G. A. Rutledge will occupy the pulpit. From our own Correspondent. The great question agitating our village at present is the Strawberry Festival to be held on July lst, on the grounds of J. C McQuarrie. Esq. Everybody is com- ing, so everybody says, and we feel as- sured of a great crowd if the day is favor- able. The Teston Brass Band was en- gaged to play that day, but they disap- pointed us. However, we have secured one of larger dimensions in the Aurora Silver Cornet Band of twenty pieces, and no doubt choice music will be rendered. The grounds will he beauti- fully illuminated with Chinese Lanterns, and all the luxuries of the season will be on hand to tempt the appetite, and every effort will be made to make this the crowning event of the season. The Festival and Condert in connection with the Presbyterian church was given at the manse on Tuesday evening, June 21st, and was a decided success, though the weather was moss unfavorable. A football match between the Springhill club and the Maple Leafs of Maple, was hotly contested, and ended in a draw. neither side having won a. game. The Rev. J. \V. Howie, a native of Lebanon, appeared in his native dress, and address- (Id the audience. But the chief feature of the evening was the singing of Mr. Flint, of Toronto, Which was excellent, and was heartilv encured. On Sunday evening Rev. J. D. Leek, of Chicago, preached a very eloquent, in- structive and appropriate anniversary eer- mon, taking as his text Prov. 22, v1. Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. Mr. Leek said that the ï¬rst ofï¬ce ever he held in a Sunday School was when he was appointed Librarian in the Heudford sunday school ï¬fteen years ago. From that he was promoted to the staff of teacher and then a Bible Class leader, there he remained until he entered the ministry. The choir rendered appropri- ate anthems. Proceeds of the anniver- sary were about $50.00. From our own Correspondent. The Methodist Sabbath School gave their anniversary Pic-Nic and entertain- ment last Wednesday. Although the weather was any thing but agreeable for a pic-nic, quite a large sssembly gathered on the grounds. The football match be- tween Gormley and Edgely was a hot con- test. The ï¬rst game was taken by the Gormley club in a. very few minutes, in fact before Edgely had rightly settled down to work. The second game was a long one and on account of the rain was not ï¬nished. It was a grand match and no doubt if these two slubs were to meet again they Would draw a large crowd. The tea was an excellent spread and was taken between showers. The entertain- ment in the evening was not very well attended, but the programme was good and somewhat lengthy. The singing and dialogues and especially the recitations were rendered in an excellent manner. No necessity for making special note of any one part as they were all good, On Thursday evening a strawberry and ice- cream social ended that part of the busi- ness. Quite a number were present to tender their last respects to the ice-cream and strawberries. ; in all things, Charity.†School Reports ery Ion [II son l tel Ernest Joyce Efï¬e Gamble Albt Hamilton II CLAS S Jes.
