The teams were pretty evenly matched, but the honors at the chat: were given to the visiting team. When the players fell into line their vu- silinns were as follows. E. Addimn, of Stoufl'ville acted as umpire for the Sluufl'ville club, and Mr J. \Vatsun, of Maple, fur the Young Canadians. Mr. T. H. Redditt was the referee. The play In the 3rd game was a repe- thluu ol the first twu. Several shuts were fired on the Stoull'ville flags, but. they were skilfully warded off by am ef- ficient and cool-headed Laval-keeper. Aft- gr a Lime the ball hovered down to the other end at the field when it. was put through. mus scoring the 2110 game for Stoutl'wlie. The match was started at 4 15, the home waln playing up the slope. Play In the first. game was in favor of the home temu,wh1ch kept the ball the great- er part vi the time in the ueighborhuud of Lhe Stuufi'ville flags, till Russ Hatfey sent it through after about 10 unuutes’ play. The second game started after a. few mmulea’ rest. and lasted a little longer than the first. The rubber had been Worked duwn behind the Hill flags, when it. was dropped over in front and caught. by McUuuaghy. the goal-keeper, who soured the game against his team, the ball rolling down hls stick. After the 3rd game the eastern men playcd better, and made every endeavur L0 wm. The play became smuewhat rougher on but]: sides, and the budy checking was pretty close. After 3 Lime the game was secured by Searle tor the Y. C’s. The teams now had two games each, and 38 minutes was left to finish the match. The admirers lur each side be- gan to cheer lustlly whenever their fav- Ul'lles did clever work, and this encourng- ed the contestants tn put. fnrth all their strength to Win. Finally 2: shot was made on the Hill flags, and Mr. Addison, the umpire, gave the game to Stuull‘ville. The Hill men protested against the de- cision, claiming that the ball was caught by McConaghy and tipped outside the flags. Hard words Were followed by blows, most of which fell on the shoulders of the pence-makers. After three cheers were gn'eu for each club and the referee, all lett the field. We might comment on the merits of several players on both sides who did good work. Manning scarcer ever came out of a' scrimmage second, and Was gen- erally in the right place at the right tune. Russ Hafl'ey on the home team made tine play and scarcely ever made a miss. 1f Hots! plays next season he should make a desirable player on the first twelve. ” "Hard ILuLk” still follows the trail of the Young Canadians. The Abell Works’ band came out on the early train, and after duinu up the town with music, went to Mr. Abell's residence and disconrsed sweet music on his lovely lawn far about two hours. Mrs Abell treated them tn lemonade, milk. cakes, apples, &c. Thev cloned their selections of music by playing Home Sweet Home, and God Save the Queen. 0n the special train were two bandsâ€"â€" Lubar’e and a life and drum bandâ€"a few Orangemen, and quite a large number of people. The two bands last named treat- ed the villagers and excursmniets to sweet music all the afternoon. A string band supplied music for those who wished to trip the light fantastic. There were sports on the old fair grounds. A cricket match between Woodbridge and Lambtou Mills, the latter winning; a base ball match betwuen Woodbridge and lorontu, the former winning; a. foot ball match between Womlbridge and Thistleton, the latter winning; there were also several foot races. Towards evening some nf the crowd be~ came rather noisy, and the services uf the village cunsluble had (U be called in- to question, and the handcuffs had to be used. It does seem a pity that we can- not have a gala day but some one has l0 bring disgrace upon the village.
