Atkinson. The first pic-uic oi the season took place last Friday at Bond’s Lake. A bus load of pupils from Aurora High School drove down and spent the day in boating and enjoying themselves generally. They all were highly pleased with the outing. Mr. Bell has all his boats in order. and is prepared to accom- modate pleasure-seekers and pio-nickers. . . . On Sunday last, about noon, the inhabitants were startled to see flames from Mr. W. Thomas' house, on the pinnacle. Before many persons had arrived the fire had gained such headwav that nothing could be done but stand helplessly by and look on. Mr. Thomas was away to church at the time. The house and wood-shed, which was also used as driving-house, were totally destroy- ‘ed. The totalioss is placed at$1.500. Mr. Thomas had some insurance. The cause .of ~who fire is unknown, but it is supposed that some boys had been around the premises smoking. . . .Mr. M. Glancy, who iormerly lived with Mr. P. The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. George Trench will be glad to learn that the latter are enjoying their new home in East Toron- to, to which place they removed a few Weeks ago. Mrs. Trench’s amiable disposition en. deared her to all with whom she came in contact, and our village sustained quite a loss in the removal of Mr. Trench. As a citizen he was always willing and active in endeavoriug to promote everything that was calculated to forward the best interests of our village. The Mechanics’ Institute, of which he was for the past year the efficient secretary ; the British and Foreign Bible Society, of which he was also secretary and treasurer; the Fire Brigade, of which he was long a useful member, all these insti- tutions will sadly miss his presence. He was also an active official. and worker in connection with the Presbyterian Church. and his place there will be difficult to fill. In fact in every way he was a most desirable and agreeable member of any committee of management. We trust that in their new home both Mr. and Mrs. Trench's brightest anticipationa will be more than realized.
