Pursuant to a notice by hand bills a meeting of the rate-payers of the village of Richmond Hill was held in the Council Chamber on Monday evening, the 11th inst., fur the purpose of taking into consideration the advisability of estab- lishing a Weekly Market in this place. The following Were muting those present: Messrs. W. H. Pugeley, J. Palmer, Wm. Atkinson, J Mortsou, T. Palmer, N. Chapman, J. H. Sanderson, J. Brownlee, W. Harrison, C. Mason, F. McCumighy, M. Boyle, C. McLean, U. Mchnaghy, Jay Sanderson, J. Swilmr, T. F. McMahon, W. Class, \V. Sanderson, A. Powell, B. Redditt, \V. Vaudeburg, \Vlll D. Atkinson, A. Moodie and H. A. Nicholle. On motion Mr. Pugsley was appointed chairman of the meeting and Mnl‘licholls acted as SeCZ‘Ellll‘y. The chairman stated the object of the meeting, gave his views relative to a market and asked those present to ex- press an opinion with reference (.0 the matter. Mr. J. H. Sanderson gave several llleallCK'b which came under his notice while travelling in the Western part. of the prm'iuCe. In almost every case the market proved one of the principal draw- ing cmds to the places mentioned. Mr. Hmrismi, Mr. Atkinson and others also expressed themselves as hav- ing conï¬dence that a weekly market, if patronized would be beneï¬cial to the citizens And to the farmers in the sur- rounding neighborhoods. There is a wind territory to draw from, and many farmers Would Seldom go to the city if they c'ould sell their poultry and other produce for cash here. On motion of Mr. Atkinson seconded by Mr. Palmer it was decided to have a market on the ‘Vednesdcy bciure Christ- mas, December 20th.
