Owing to the unfavorable state of the weather the attendance was not so large as usual. The‘ open- ing exercises on Friday morning were followed by an excellent paper on Composition by Mr. Thompson, prin- cipal of Aurora. Public School. An able discussion on the subject was led by Mr. A. B. Davidson, in which Mr; Thompson’s ,‘ methods . were thoroughly discussed. The afternoon session was opened "by roll call, after which the convention had an exhibition of class teaching. The ï¬rst was Grammar as taught in Aurora. Public School by' Miss Wilson. Next came Reading as taught in Aurora, l’ublicSchool by Miss Rogers. This was followed by an able dissertation on Kingsley’s “Three Fishers,†from the “artistic side,†by Inspector Davidson. Mr. Davidson brought out many ï¬ne ideas in his treatment of this sad, though beautiful production. Kingsley, he said, was a. Socialist, and this poem was written with a. view to arousing sympathy in England for the workin classes. “For men must work an women must weep, For there’s little to earn, and many to keep, While the harbor bur keeps moaning." An in- teresting discussion on this poem brought the afternoon session to :1 close. In the evening 2L concert was given in the Mechanics’ Hall, to which all members of the convention were admitted free. \Ve are not in ll. posi- tion to note the proceedings ot the following day. “ \Vind and weather †Kept the Richmond Hilldeleguiion at home.
