At the last regular meeting of Pat- Irterson Lodge. No. 265, A. F. & A. M., R. 0., Thornhill. the members pre- ssenbed W. Bro. J. Edward Francis With the History of Masonry in Can- ;gda. by.J. Ross Robertson. consisting cqf two handsomely hound volume.=, which contain over two“ thousand wages; guflmï¬neiy illustrated: Enquiries are made every day re- ’iative to the time that cars leave the village north and south, but no one is able to give much information on the subject. We understand, how- ‘ever, that a new tinie table is being ;prepared. This is very much need- ;ed'as the travelling public are at a loss to know when they can get a ear and what they have to pay for nhe ride. The Globe of Monday says: “ Mr. ‘E. A. Maodonald announces deï¬nite- ~ï¬lly that he is a. candidate forthe Mayo» alty.†Sume the Globe does not think it: is springing a surprise on its readers by furnishing them with the above information. II; would be tolerably safe to predict that Mr. Macdonald will be a candidate for ithe Toronto Mayoralty for the next gï¬ve years. In spite of all the coolness and de- liberation which have been display- ‘ed by England, war seems to be in- i,evitable between that country and the Transvaal. This is greatly to be «deplored as the loss of life, not count- the millions of money that will be expended, will be enormous. The ecivilized world looks upon Britain’s cdemands as reasonable, but they Ev‘vliie've practically been rejected by President Kruger who is deï¬ant in the extreme. The Transvaal last month offered to make concessions to the Uitlanders such as a ï¬ve years’ franchise, and the right to partici- pate in the election of the president «but these concessions were to be given only on the condition that Britain would cease to exercise any authority in the internal affairs of the country. Such a condition Great Britain could not consider, so that war is almost a foregone conclusion. The Globe of yesterday made out a strong case in favor of a reform in inferior court procedure in this prov- ince. It showed from the report of theilnspector of Division Courts for last year that the cost of collecting accounts in County Courts is out of all proportion with the amount re- scovered. The Globe’s .-conten-ti;n is that the Division Court system should be extended to cover the jurisdiction mow exercised by the County Court, and that paper is urging the Legis- élature to take the matter up and to deal with it cfl'ectively at its next sitting. Before the ï¬rst Metropolitan timeâ€" table was made to Richmond Hill, the management very kindly met the Village Council, and talked the matter over as to fares, number of Ilain services, and the time each car should leave for Toronto. As the present arrangement is not altogeth- er satisfactory to our citizens, and as the company are experimenting on a new time-table it might be well for the Council and. Board of Education i to again wait on the management before the. time-table is printed. High School students from the south :n‘ow arrive by Metropolitan car con- siderably before 9 o’clock, and have to remain until 5 in the evening. It is not expected that the Metropolitan ‘ can arrange its time so as to suit every place along the line, but if they understand the Wishes of the people they will doubtless do their best to accommodate the travelling public. The congregat'on 0f th‘a Pieshy‘ (avian church gave. their popular pastm‘,Rev. J. A. Grant, a warm welcume back from the Old Country on Friday oven- ing. The receptiun was held in the church whereu very social time was spent. After singing and thv usual ()pcning exercises Mr. H. M. Brown, in the name of the congwge'ï¬on, ad- dressed the paator in very appropriate words, and presented him with a purse. Mr. Grant responded feelingly and expressed his appreciation of the gift and the kind words which fell from the lips of Mr. Brown. {afresh- ments were afterwards servvd and everybody present enjode the happy re-union between the pastornnd his congregation. The Next Sitting of Divisim: Court. for No. 3, County of York, will be held in the Court Room, MONEY I MONEY! RICH MO‘ND HIL L. FRIDAY, GGTOBEH 6, 1899, On behalf of the ofï¬cers and brethren the presentation'was made by W. Bro. Langstaff, who appropriately ad- dressed the lodge. 1t afl'orded him†much pleasure to perform the duty assigned to him as this was an indica- tion of the high appreciation the members had of the sterling qualities and true Masonic work 'of W. Bro. Francis. At several meetings of Grand Lodge he had represented Pat- terson Lodge in a most, satisfactory manner. Since admitted into Free- masonry he had practised the genuine principles of a Mason’s heart, using his utmost energies for the welfare of his mother lodge in particqu and the whole craftrin general. The W. Bro. had been true to the lodge in time of adversity as well as in that of prosper- ity. In fact it was in a great measure through his indefatigable exertions that the lodge had risen from its once low condition till it now stands a credit to our noble order. In future the younger brethren might look to Bro. Francis as a supreme authority on disputed points, while the wish of every brother was that he might long live to continue and act as surh. ‘ G001 General Servant at (mm. 11-2 appiy [it TE JG L r31“) 8. This is human nature. While it is gratifying to be the “ï¬rst man 7’ to bring out an idea, the great mass must be content to follow their leaders.
