Church last Sunday by the pastor, Rev. J. K. Hil- ty. There was a. large congregation. and the earnest and practical ser- mon was enjoyed by all present. ’ On Tuesday evening the Harvest Home Festival was held, and the re- sult must be very encouraging to the pastor and the church membership. There was a large attendance, and the ci'itertainment which followed tlu‘ tea was unusually interestin . Visitors were present from Maple. cston. Pur- plcville.Vellore,Richmond Hill.Tliorn- hill, Hcadfoi-d and other surrounding villages, and the Lutheran church at. Sherwood seemed a most fitting place fora social i-cuuion. The weather was perfect and the roads excellent, which no doubt added to the. success of the festival. The ten served in the lower part of the church was one of the best, and, as on > of the speakers afterwards remarked. the only difficulty he exper- icllced was in finding a place for the sweet meats-and other delicacies which wcre almost forced upon him by the attentive and accommodating waiters. The auditorium of the church where the entertainment was hold was magnificently decorated with various kinds of fruit and grain and roots and vegetables and choicest flowers and the effect was very pleasing. Atahout 9.30 the congregation rose and sang “ All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name." Rev. \Vesley Dean. of Maple, read a portion of scripture. and Rev. J. A. Grant of Richmond Hill offered pray- er. The pastor. Rev. J. K. Hilty, then introduced Mr. T. F. McMahon as chairman, whoafter a few introduc- tory remarks, called upon the various performers for their Srlc‘cilOllS. Sev- eral of the artists were form-d to reâ€" spond to cncorcs, but. as all did so well and gave evident satisfaction it is un- necessary to individualizc. The dresses by Revs. Messrs. Dl'Illl' and Grant were bright and cheerful, and contained just enough humor to be thoroughly enjoyed. The following arc the numbers of the programme presented :â€" Antliein. Unionville. The first anniversary of the Lutheran Joint Ladies’ Aid Society, which took place on August 22. on the lawn of Mrs. P. Harper, proved to been. very successful event. ’I‘hc evening was most delightful, and the attendance, though not as large as cxpectctl. was very good. Tea was served fiom 6 to 8. after which a short program was given. Short and practical addresses were given by the following Lutheran ministers: Rev. E. F. Bitter, Kcv. O. J. Schlenber and Rev. Mr. Ronchc, all of Pennsylvania; Rev. J. K. Hilty of Sherwood ; and Rev. Mr. Millcr of To- ronto. Rev. Mr. Brut-h, pastor of the cliui-ch, filled the role of cliaii'iiitlu in his usual happy styic. The ['nionvillc 'band rendered several Selections dur- ing the evening. which assisted in making the evening puss pleasantly. The proceeds amounted to $30.
