A \Vomen‘s Memorial to our belov- ed and much lamented Sovereign Lady, Queen Victoria, has been inaugurated by the ‘Vomen’s Canadian Historical Society of Tm‘onto. The plan arrang- ed is that each woman in the Queen City and vicinity be asked to give the deï¬nite sum of ten cents toward a fund for the erection of aMemm-ial Hall. in which lectures, Society meet- ings, patriotic gatherings, 850., may be held. In this Hall a statue of the Queen will be erected, and in order that the Hall may be. also a memorial to those who have given their lives in loyal service to Queen and country, it. is intended that the windows be so built that they may be made suitable memorials, and the space between each may be ï¬lled by panels, brasses or statues to the memory of the Can- adians who have fallen in Africa or elsewhere in the Imperial service. Miss Teefy and Mrs. Farquharson, members of the Society, are collectors for this place. FIREMEN’S CARNIVAL. The “Witch†Carnival in the rink last. evening under the auspicns 0f the Fire Brigade was a unique. affair. Every arrangement previously made was carried out to the letter, the only disappointment being in the small atâ€" tendance. This was not surprising, however. as the weather was fright- fully cold, and the. roads in many places were almost impassable. The rink was appropriately decorated for the occasion with evergreens, black cats, owls, dragons, etc., and every- thing had a weird appearance. The large hanging lamps were surrounded with transparencies of various forms, prominent among which was the face of the moon. In the centre of the rink was the witch cave. In the centre of the cave was erected a large caldron hung on a tripod, under which was a flaming fire-place. Here the witch broth was made, and this proved a re- freshing drink, flavored as it was with snakes and toads. Around the fire- place the witches and their escorts the couplet, Double, double, toil and trouble, Fire burn and caldron bubble. There were several storms of thunder and lightning, the latter being very vivid, and the odor was more like that of powder rathei than electricity, but this may be peculiar to witchcraft. A MAGNIFICENT SCHOOL. An assemblage of bright, young men and women gathered from many parts of our Dominion and united in the, pursuit of practical knowledge under the direction of twelve experienced and capable teachers, may be seen any - day by visiting the ('entral Business College, Toronto. Modernity is really the mistress of this splendid school. and when supported by thoroughness and careful attention to every detail which can be worka out for the ben- efit of the student, it is not surprising that, the np-to-date business man selects this school for his son or his daughter.
