STAN- DARD HOUSE. 331 Dumamm, Sr. CHICAGO. Acting on information supplied him Mr. Jus. Eckurdt. License Inspector for East York, laid a. clmrge against the proprietor of the Palmer House forgiving liquor to Jos. Blanchard on Sunday, A til 21, and for keeping a disorderly nuse. The case was tried in the Court Room here last Thursng by Mr. Ormerod. J. P., of EustTuâ€" ronto. Mr. HnVH'SOJ) represented the defendant, and Mr. Dewurt watched the case for the crown. Mrs. Blanch- ard was the first witness. The Crown Attorney tried to show that Blanchard had been drinking that day at the hoteL and that his wife went to take him home. Mrs. Blanchzu-d denied this, saying that as she wished to go out for a. wale she wth to the hotel to give her husband the key of the house. Mr. Blanchardnvas also ex- amined. but nothing of an incriminat- ing nature ,was elicited. Both the landlord and his bartender swore that they sold no liquor on the day in ques- tion. Several other witnesses were examined. but they appeared to know unthin whawerqflthe matter com- pluine of. Mr. ‘Dewart consulted with the Inspector and advised that noconvictiun he made. The general opinion seems to be that the. party who gave the information to the In- speator was not at the trial tosub- smutiate the charge. 1Ve do not wish to east any reflection .on the temper- anceeiement of this con-unnnity, but it is a. noticeable. fact that in nearly everyliquor case tried here, recogniz- ed temperance workers take no inter- est in the matter. and are nlwnys con- spicuous by their absence at the trial as they were on 'l‘hursday,_lust.
