Rev. G. L. Sprague, the Baptist. .minister who has been at Flat Rock. Michigan, for several yeaxs. has been ccalled to Aurora. in place of Rev. Mr. "erie, who has taken another change. Gzolgosz. the assassin of President McKiniey, has been sentenced to die in the week of October 28. The clerk-.is instructed to write the clerk of Beavermn and say that, this council regrets that it cannot comply with the lequest, contained in his com- municutlun. A printéd circular dated 1513 June, from the Attorney-General, together with a copy of “An Act to Amend the AasessmenbAct,” were laid before the council. AEomfimuicatiou dated 6LhAAugusb. from the clerk of the mumcipzllity of Begwertpn, was read. The by-Law was read a. first, second and third time and passed. ' The council met, in the Clerk’s Office on Sept. 30, at 8.30 p. m. All the members present. The minutes of ‘1qu 5 were read and approved: The estimates were sflbmitbed to the council. Sincere regret is felt in the serious illness of Hon. N. C. Wallace, M. P. for West York. Three physicians met in consultation at the family .residence in Woodbridge on Monday, and although there is a hope that immediate danger does uot exist, it is generally believed he is ina very weak condition. Mr. Wallace has for many years worked beyond his strength, so that peace and quiet and restfrom his labors seem now to be .absolutely necessary. A wide circle of friends will hope to learn of his speedy recovery and a return to his old-time good health. A correspondent in last Saturday’s Globe writes to say that the reproof is unnecessarily severe, and that he does not see that registering under assumed names savors of immorality. We admire the correspondent’s spirit of charity, but regret that those who should show a good example, not only in morals but in common sense, allowed themselves to be placed in such an awkward situation. The council adjourned. The investigation of the charges ‘prefcrred against the two clergymen, Messrs. Sanderson and McAminond, ' in the district of Smith’s Falls, has been held. The committee of trial suspended the former until Confer- ence meets next June, and the latter was reproved by the chairman. It is quite possible that the accused were not on a tour of wickedness in the city of Syracuse, but to register at a hotel under assumed names certainly indicated a serious lack of becoming gravity on their part, and was a re- proach to the church. The Bible says, “ Forgive that ye may be for- given." In this case it is to say the least difficult to forget the part the two clergymen have taken in the de- plorable alfair. They may have been innocent of evil intentions, but for one of them to acknowledge that he took from the hands of strangers late at night candies that stupified him, is enough to create suspicion, and showed a want of dignity on the part of a minister of the gospel.
