At the end ofthe twenty-ï¬rst week. ending September 25th, the relative standing of the four leading dairy .breeds at the Pan-American is prac- tically unchanged as far as the total proï¬t on butter is concerned. The contest, however, is becoming more interesting as the end draws near, and the past week has developed some unexpected features. The Guernseys as a herd are showing. signs of weakening and stand fourth for the week on proï¬t for estimated butter. The Jeiseys are again in. the lead with a proï¬t of 7.41 ; Ayr- shires second with 7.36; Holsteins' third, 7.28; Guernseys fourth, 7.26; Shorthoms ï¬fth, 6.51; and French Canadians sixth. 6.34. of West York will have a voice in selecting a candidate for this riding. Mr. Campbell will doubtless be the Liberal candidate whenever the elec- '-1;ion takes place, but; the Mail‘s ouly object; in bringing Mr. Tarte's name into this matter is to introduce the question of race and religion as it al- ways does. Such a paragraph as the above is contemptible. Those who take time to think will know that neither Mr. Tartc nor any other person outside 'Tlie Mail-Empire of Friday con- -tained the following editorial 1101c: †Mr. Tal‘te has lost no time in placing his candidate in the ï¬eld in West York. He has nominated Archie Campbell for the position, Mr. Campbell being sulï¬ciently servile for his pui'pOses. Mr. Tarre might; have had the decency to wait for a few days." The World ï¬rst charges the Con- servative party, and secondly mem- bers of the Orange order, with Mr. Wallace’s death. There may have been differences between Mr. Wallace and the above bodies. About these we have nothing to say. But we know that Mr. Wallace with all his success had too much spirit to die of a broken heart. And we know that to raise the question at this particu- lar time shows a lack of feeling and human sympathy. “ Second, the still more painful dis- covery that; there were men in the Orange Order, leaders in it like him- self, who, while professing the prin- ciples which he held dear, were ready and willing to desert these principles to keep the Conservative party in Ofï¬ce.†"‘ First, the discovery that there was no room in the Conservative party for a member of Paxliament in Canada who was of strong Protestant .and British principles, disposed to as. ‘ art the same, and “ Clarke Wallace died, so the "doctors tell us, of pernicious anaemia. He also died of a broken heart. And what; broke Clarke Wallace’s heart was two things : All classes of people from both sides ot'polities have expressed sin- cere regret in the death of Hon. N. "C. Wallace. Men who opposed him in Various contests were ready to sink all differences in the hour of death, and to remember only his kindness of heart and other com- mendable qualities. Few men would think of entering the house of the bereaved family at such atime in order to advance their political in- fluence, much less to thrust a knife into their professed friends. Yet that is what the Worid newspaper has done. o On the morning after Mr. Wallace’s death The World, whose elitor-in-chief is Mr. W. F. Maelean, M. P.,containcd an editorial under tile heading of “ A Tragedy in Poli- tics.†from which the following is tics, taken Elm Qï¬ibcml. Mail Contractâ€"A Lindsay Farm to kwt-DJumes.
