P., for many _ years a resident of this place. Dc- ‘._ ceased was for many years in business ,iu which by industr ' and fair dealing Lie-won the confidence of the public . and was most; successful. He was born in Cumberland. England, on the ~2nd of February, 1816, and came to this country 57 years ago. He lived for a short time in Toronto and then _moved to Eglinton where he resided ‘l for about three years. He then moved _ , to Macheil’sCorners (Aurora) Where ' ‘ he kepta general .store for three or .four gyezirs. Next he removed to __Thornhill where he did business in 'Thorue and Parson's large store in thedmllow. In the Spring of 1855 he came to Richmond Hill and purchased the McPheison store which he occupi- ed until burned out. in 1368 when he built the substantial brick store known as The Fire Proof. A couple of years afterwards he retired from active busi- ness pursuits in favor of his son Mr. { Issac Cl't)sby.and lived a quiet and easy ; life for the remainder of his days. The 'funeml will take place from his late residence to-mon'ow (Friday) after- noon, at 2.30 to the village. Cemetery, where he will he laid to rest beside the g rtner of his life who preceded her . figflund about twelve years ago. 7. I 9 b u t t0 the DEATH OF MR. PARKER CROSBY‘ ‘7, V _ .4. This January number is unusually fortunate in its fiction. Ian Maclaren breaks his long silence by contributing one of his exquisitive little sketches, “ The Vision of the Soul,” while Ham- lin Garland tells an Indian tale in his best vein, a story which has been elab- orately illustrated in colors. In several other stories, notably those by Ralph Henry Barbour, and E. S. Chamber- layne, the humorous predominates, while Miss Marion Hill’s story. "In Honor of the Infant,” combines a delicious sense of the ludicrous with a half unconscious pathos that comes from a perfect understanding of child- hood. Amongr the more serious articles in this number is a striking character sketch of Chief Arthur, of the Locomotive Engineers, the single pelmanent leader of labor in this country, and Senator Tihnan’s success- ful defence of his plan for the solution of the liquor problem“ Readers who 0h‘\14-. ‘ LESLIE’S POPULAR pre On Mnndny evening the Lecture Rumn nf the Presbyterian Church was crowded, it heng the Christmas en- tertainment of the sabbath School.
