Janinu-y 23, 1903 LEVELS ABOVE LAKE ONTARIO ‘ We have frequently been asl-tcd about the levels from certain points on Yonge Street above Lake Ontario, and have heard various opinions cx- I pressed. The following extract, with the tabulated levels, will be interest- ing to many of our readers. It is an authentic record by a distinguished Professor of Trinity College, Toronto ; he was aivarded twenty pounds for his essay. I Extract from a pamphlet in the Ontario ijarliament Library entitled “Journal and Transactions of the “ Board of Agriculture of Upper “‘ Canada, October 1855.â€"Prize “County Agricultural Reports.â€" “Agricultural Report of the United "‘ Counties of York, Ontario and Feel, “April 15b, 1853, by H. Y. Hind, “ Esq., of Trinity College, Toronto.” Respecting'the level above the sea, and at certain points along Yongc Street above Lake Ontario, Mr. Hind says: “The ascent from Lal 0 Ontario to the utmost elevation of the Ridges on the line of the 10\\'( st level is “rather abrupt, and is attained 21 mil'esirom the City of Toronto in a direction due north. On the lines of the Ontario, Simcoe and Huron Railway the altitudes subjoiued are those for every two miles between Toronto and the level of Lake Siineoe ” : Level of Lake Ontario, 0 ft... or 234 ft. above the sea. The Leader and Room ronto Junction in referring to the re- ccnt byeelections truthfully says. that all three seats were won by the Ross Government. That paper,how- over, endeavors to comfort itself by pointing out that “ there is almost sure to be another protest in North Grey, and the possibility that pro-i tests will also be entered in the two other constituenciesmeither side seems to gain any decided advantage.” Would’nt that kill you! Had the three bye-elections been won by lib-.1 Whitney, Bro. Fa-wcett would still he shouting victory, and he would say the advantage was very decided. , “ARTE D_â€"â€" A TRUSTWORTHY GENTLE- mcn or lady in each county to manam husinrss for an old established house 01’ solid financial standing. :3. straight. hone tide weeklysulury or $13.00 paid by check each Wednesday with all expenses dirat-Irum headquarters.
