People from various quarters are ofl'ering their protests against Cana- dian yonng; girle hecoming the teach- ers of Chinese young men sent out to this cohntry. Whilst the teaching of foreigners and an earnest desire to help the strangers coming to Canada is éomméhdable, yet the teaching of the__nindividual Chinese by young ladies is’improper. Rxcuuoxn HILL. 0m†The Grand Jury sitting in Toronto last Week sent in a recommendation in favor of the abolition. of juries in important (cases. The recommenda- tion is not a’popular one. The. trial of a man by his peers seems to carry with it an air of justice. Yet if people are only looking for cold justice and nothing more it is doubtful if they are not safer in the hands of a judge versed in the law than in the hands of twelve iurymeu who are more likely to be influenced by local prejudices. The suggestion of a change in the law is worthy of serious consideration. Rev. Dr. Milligan, pastor of Old St.‘ Andrew’s Church for the past thirty-three years, has become a strong supporter of Church union in Canada., Dr. Milligan stated in a powerful sermon last Sunday that his thoughts were turned in‘ the di- rection of closer union at a time when he was hovering between life and death. If there was less bigotry and more Christian sympathy in the churches a union of those preaching Christ could be easily effected. Many people are too much inclined to build a wall around their own denomina- tion and. make themselves believe that other churches are less earnest than themselves. Let class distinc- tions be swept awav. Then the work will be easier for those who are really zealous in the work of soul- saving. Apain rescription is printed npnn each 250. 0x of D1“.
