Cr‘lik‘a a mad- uy Standing room was at a. premium in Victoria Hall, Thornhill, last evening, when the children of the Presbyterian Sunday School held their annual Xmas tree and entertalnment. From all points of view the entertainment was one of the most successful ever held, and the teachers \\ ho had in hand the training of the children, as well as many others who contributed towards .its success in various ways, have. reason to feel justly proud. From 5 to’7.30 a fowl supper was sci ved by the ladies of the congregation, who ably showed their ability in this respect, of which many partook. doing ample justice thereto. At 8 oclock the chairn‘ian. Rev. E. C. Currie, called the gathering together, and after a few well chosen remarks, presented tln program of the evening. which consisted ofrecitations, songs. and a dialogue by the children of the Sunday School; and several selections by the 'l‘hornhill Quartette, principal among them being a selection untitled “Angels from the Realms; of Glory.†Their renderings Were heart- ily apprieiated by the. audience. Sev- eral appropriate readings, and two solos, were contributed by Mrs. E. C. Currie, and called forth appreciative expression from all present. A solo, entitled ‘k‘Outside the Gates of Para- dise,†was also contributed by Rev. Mr. Currie. During the. evening short ad- dresses were delivered by Rev. Father Grant and Rev. E. T. Douglas, touch- ing principally on the theme of de- nominational friendship, and congra~ tulatory remarks on the success of the evening’s entertainment. Thereafter those in charge of the Xmas tree pro- ceeded to distribute the gittsthereon to the children. and the singing of the National Anthem brought a delighttul evening to a close. J. 1:) (imam.
