Mr. T. H. Lennox, M.P.P. for North York, has introduced a bill in the On- tario Legislature to amend the Ontario Railway Act by allowing municipal- ities to apply to the Ontario Railway and Municipal Board for aconnection between two railways. At present only either company can apply. The immediate object of the bill is to per- mit the County of York to apply for a connection between the Metropolitan and the Toronto Railway Company's lines at North Toronto. The bill should be allowed to pass and become law. At present, citizens at Simon, Newmarket, Aurora, Rich- mond Hill, and all places along the line can only shiptheir produce or any kind of freight as far as the C._P.R. crossing. If travellers want to fake a trunk with them thev must hunt up a teamster at the C.P.R. crossing and have it; taken to the Union Station, and run the risk of losing their train. Jr. IV.â€"Juhn McCague. 383; Heher McCague. 365; Ruth Hoover, 350; Elsie Dunnr, 350: Eva. Conner, 348; Fred Cusgx-ove, 340; Harry Jones, 317; Ervie Hunt, 192. And what are the reasons given for not having a connection betWeen the Metropolitan and the Toronto Ccm- pany’s lines? Toronto says the Metropolitan may enter the city and run its cars to the market or to the Union Station till the year 1921, after which date the Metropolitan may be told to cease operations 'in the city, as Toronto may then take over the Street Railway and run it as a muni- cipal institution. And while the Company and the City Council are squabbling over their differences the farmers and other citi- zens in me County of York are suffer- ing for want; of an entrance into the city. But the city says we have only ll’more years to wait, and then we shall be given the required accommo- dation. Surely, patience is a virtue. 3173;111:0111) HILL, Own. MARCH 10, 1910 The Metiopol itan cannot be blamed very much for declining such an offer. The iatter say they will enter into an agreement with the city on condition that the Metropolitan be allowed to continue running their cars through the city after the year 1921, the price to be paid for the franchise to be settled by arbitration.
