But wherein lies the reason, where- by one is content to sacrifice a whole night’s rest on this account? It is not because it is in the starry firm- aments, because we may gaze in wonder upwards any night and sat- isfy cur wondering vision. Is it be- cause of its appearance only at such rare intervals of time? Possibly. But may not the real reason be the thinking the thought, “what is this strange wanderer that comes from we know not where and that goes to we know not where, and. that comes for some reason we know not why and that goes for some reason we know not why? The comet does not ask anyone to look at it, and yet we find it an- nounced months before its arrival and discussed at every breakfast table. We find weary-eyed students content to spend a long hour or two after the midnight oil has been burned if onlv they can say next morning “I saw the comet,” and we see interested parties serving coffee and cake in the cities when the only sign of life on the streets is the steady beat of the night policeman and the sharp click of the arc lights, if only they can be the first to catch a glimpse of it. What a quiet, unobtrusive thing this comet is. There night after night it spreads itself across the sky. Thousands stand out every night to do it homage, and as they have done in the past, so they will do in the future. RICHMOND HILL, OWL, JUNE 2. 1910 @112 131311213311; C()}1nty_).._.
