How can he know this if he does not take a farm business paper? What doctor or law- yer or business man would be without hisrbusiness paper? There is but one farmers’ business and market paper, that is The Weekly Sun. Start 1910 right by subscribing. “' . An International Aviation Meet will he held in Toronto fl-nm July 9th to 16th, under the auspices of Ontario Mnbm- League; which is expected to equal if nut surpass anything of the ‘kind attempted up to this time in America. Arrangements are nut yet entirer (‘Uleh-‘tl’. but the Gummittee having the matter in hand is working hard, and matters will be in full swing within a few days. ' R. Pearce. {1,6 Sztndford which is situated in Township 18, Range 19; Mr. Pearce has a very fine home; a building much larger than, any- resi- dence in Gull Luke, three stories high, finished off with all modern improve- ments, large furnace in the basement and probably the best showing of plants and flowers in bloom that is to; to be seenin the southwest of SILS- kzlt'shewanu Near the lumse is their store, alsn a 150 foot well with a wind- mill wurking the pump. Mr. Pearce has, with his sons, 1,760 acres of fine land. 150 of which is in crop, while two outfits were on breaking. They are making a start to provide for their own hay making a trial this wear of ten acres of timothy. A pasture of 100 acres has been fenced in.Lhe poles being brought from the sand hills, 3.3 miles tn the west‘ in 1922. when Mr. Pearce started building up his place, fourteen months agn, there were u’hly about twenty people in the neighborhood, and now there are over 600: in four townships there are 160 people. One striking feature is the number of married settlers in this district. the lonely bachelor being an exueption to the rule. Our next stop was at the half-way house (Baskerv-ille’s) where we found over a dozen people at dinner. this being the regular stopping place. There is lots of first-class land here, and Baskcrvilles are making the most of it. They have a stream breaking outfit, good buildings, including a blacksmith shop, well built, stables, etc. One mile past Baskcrville’s in 16- 19, in the ravine, or the springs as it is called locally, is u very pretty spot, but a bad place. to go through with a. loud. A- new trail leading off to the West; missing the hills, has been made, which is generally used, but we follow- ed the old tmil. A long valley, begin- ning in 17-19. is fine farming country,- where we found a large number of new buildings are being erected. After ascending the rise, there is a. large flat piece of country extending to within five miles of the Saskatchewan River, lnoken onlv by a portion of the szmd hills. A wide strip of good land runs east, broken by some rough land around Snake Hole :i'nd Boggy Lake. Extending for about five miles in town- ships 18 and 19. there is a fine countrv right through to Keithville. where there is v :1‘ large settlement, about three years old. The country, south of Keithvillc is vet-y rolling. We stopped over night the gugsts‘of‘Miu QTI-IERE IS BUT ONEQ Stat-ting from Gull Lake early in the morning, the first. thing noticed was the amount of new breaking in the hills close to town, a large part; of which was being put into flax. On reaching the Nixon settlement, we drove over L0 Fred. Gray’s place, where the best crop of wheat; in the district noth or south is to be seen. Forty acres of wheat, Mr. Nixon’s and 50 acres on Fred. Gray’s was up ten inches by actual measurement. Noth- ing else during the whole drive Was found to be above five inches. 011 enquiring, we found that all the work hud been done in the fail and the land was In first-class shape. .u‘ With the object of seeing the con- ditio‘ns of the settlers in the country north of town, the writer, with M1. Phil Brenton, took a three day’s trip out; there last week. and found that, the repnrts as to the growth of the districtrwere not, a bit_exngger§\ted. _ RICHMOND HILL, 0N1.
