Metropolitan car near midnight. Wed- nesday of last week. HP was driving north with his team and sleigh when he was struck by the car. Mr. Ash claims the snow was so high that he could not get, off the track. He was thrown from the sleigh, and was picked up only a few feet in front of the car. One of the horses was badly injured. No admission fee beyond the monthly collection. The congregation has sustained a distinct loss through the, death of Mr. Andrew Newton, which occurred on the 11th instant. For many years he was Well known and highly esteemed not only as a business man, but as a. citizen, who was deeply interested in all the activities of Richmond Hill and vicinity. He discharged with faithful- ness the. duties of any office in which he was called upon to serve. This will he remembered in connection with his service upon the School Board and as a manager in the congregation. He was a man of kindly disposition who seemed to befriend every body and to antagonize none. And in these later months of illness his placid spirit he- spoke a confidence beyond the reach of all fluctuation and change. The first round of the home and home hockey games hetween tho Markham and Richmond Hill High Schools will he played to-night (Thurs- day) in the Richmond Hill Skating Rink. The girls teams will take the ice :it-S p.m. sharp. and the boys im- mediately after. Markham is playing fast hockey, as they have a. much better ice sheet f01 practice, and spec» tators will see an exciting struggle from start to finish. The admission fee is put down to 10 cents for both. The rink should be crowded to its ut- most. The pmceeds from these matches, after expenses, go towards equipping a High School reading table.
