flibtml. not. .3. 1914 RICHMOND HILL. 0NT.. Drill Halls are being erected in all parts of Canada. One of the latest contracts is for a drill hall at Edmon ton for $286,000. Everything re- ‘ cently goes to show that the Minister 1 of Militia, Col, the Hon. Sam Hughes, , is more interested in spending money on the destructive arts of war rather than in cultivating the arts of peace. In the Local Legislature on Friday, $5,000 was placed in the estimates to be used for the enforcement of the Canada Temperance Act, known as the Scott Act. This is evidence that the Ontario Government will assist in the enforcement of this Act where it is in operation. The facilities under the Act do not give the Pro- vincial ofiicers the same powers en- joyed under the liquor license Act, but it is expected the Government will meet the situation by appointing special officers of the peace whose duty will be to prevent any illegal traffic in intoxicating liquors, and see that the prohibition is carried out in ‘ the counties where it is applied.
