Mr. W. I“. Maclean, M. P., has won Ll e Riding in many elections, and as he has many warm friends it is a diï¬icult task io wrest. the sea: from him. Mr. Macgregor, however, will continue to give faithful servioo in the community and we are sure he takes his defeat in the lame manly spirit in which he emeled into the contest. a new leader appointed by a handful of party men, they did not feel in- clined to allow a new Government to carry on without a. mandate from the electors. In his platform addresses Mr. Macgregor satisfied his hearers on the question of the tariff, but he emphasized the fact that the chief question before the elections was not a high or a low tariff, buta usurpation of the people's rights and liberties by the late Government. The Liberal candidate made many new friends in the different parts ofthe Riding where he was ableto visit, and many think that had it not been a three»cornered contest he might have headed the poll.
