L , , The second girls game of soft ball was next in order, Maple and Hope‘ opposing each other. For five full inn- ings the battle went merrily on. some splendid batting and fielding being in evrdence. Hope went to bat first and Iucceeded in getting one run across the plate before the side was retired Maple went them one better in their half of the firstâ€"score 2 to 1. Hope repeated in the first half of the second. and Maple. not to be outdone. increased their lead in the last half of the second, securing 6 rumâ€"score 8 2. The first part of the aixth inning had ‘ not gone very far before the weather man commenced to distribute the H 2 0 quite freely upon the ground, upon the spectators. end upon the players, but the girls stuck to their past, Hope being at bat and Maple in the field‘ Hope this time secured their greatest num- ber of runs (2), but does not count in the official score as the game revert. back to the five full innings. The North To- ronto team again faced a different local junior team. L iner Harding and Clar- ence Mylkl being the battery on this occalion. The game went in“ seven innings. and mu replete with spec- tacular pitchin r, catching, throwing, and fielding on me part of both teams. The local-emerged victorious by a scorn of 4 to 2. Bruce Ross, at short-stop position. played his usual steady. heady, game. Eric White took part in tho game although suffering from a very badly damaged knee received while fielding a long hit in the Aurora game last week ; ha and his bat pla ed an im- portant part in the game. E mar Hard- ing had perfect control of the elusive ball on this occuion, his hip-shootr, slants, twists. and curves. being a per- plexing and unsolvable puzzle to the op- posing batters. Of course there were bright particular star: on the visitor- line-up also. but their names are foreign to yours truly; the pitcher was in fine fottlo throughout, but lost the pitching duel to Elmer. The game was a real good 'un from start to finish and planned every spectator.- The girls soft ball tournament opened the afternoon doings, Richmond Hill girls being drawn against Dublin girls for the first game. and Hope and Maple girls for the second game, the two win- ning teams to play the final (am. for the cup in the evening. The first game proved easy for the Dublin girls, they winning out by a score of 28 to 10. Once again the locals found out that games cannot be won without practice. Lut year. after consistent practices, they proved themselves unbeltable by any single individull team in surrounding dfltricts. This year, without one full team practice, they have played five games, losing four of them and win- ning one by the close score of 19~18.
