Booth Robbed For the second time this year Hall’s Service Station was visited by thieves on Tuesday night. The thieves who were evidently of the petty class broke the lock of Mr Hall’s booth and stole a quantity of tobacco and cigar- ettes. Early in the season the ser- vice station was also entered and considerable goods stolen. Crop Judging James McLean has been visiting various parts of the province during the week in connection with crop competitions and reports harvesting operations general. The wheat crop in some section suffered from winter killing but oats and corn and in fact all other crops according to Mr. Mc- Lean are looking very promising. Pleasing Recital A very pleasing drawing-room re- cital was given by Miss Helen Wil- liams at her home here on Friday last. Miss Williams who is a talent- ed artist played beautifully and the program was varied to include the works of the old French masters as well as the ultraâ€"modern composers. The program was enjoyed by music lovers of the district who appreciated the oportunity of enjoying such a musical treat. Thirteenth Annual Picnic The Thirteenth Annual Picnic and Parish reunion of St. Mary’s, St. Lukes, Thornhill and St. Edward’s, Lansing Catholic Churches will be held at the fair grounds, Richmond Hill, Saturday afternoon and evening July 31. Prominent old boys will address the gathering in the after- noon and there will be an attractive program of sports including horse racing, softball tournament for ladies and gentlemen as well as a varied list of races and attractions for young and old. The first annual mixed tournament put on by the local Ladies’ Bowling Club on Saturday last was a very sucâ€" cessful event, and about thirty rinks participated in the competition. Mrs. J. H. Jackson, the president of the club, welcomed the visiting rinks and play was started promptly on time. The honors of the day went to a Rich- mond Hill rink skipped by G. Moodie which won the first prize after sev- eral keenly contested games. The second prize was won by a Totten- ham rink; All members of the local club as well as visiting rinks are well pleased with the success of the first tournament. 11 On Tuesday last Godfrey Willis and Gid Moodie took two rinks of “colts” over to Stoufi'ville and in regular lea- gue games defeated the seasoned, Veb- erans of that town. F. J. Mansbridge, W. Ward Price, E. T. Stephens, and James McLean, skip attended the Oakville tournaâ€" ment on Wednesday afternoon and were successful in winning two games and only lost their third by one shot. They report that the Oakâ€" ville club has an exceptionally fine green D. Atkinson, H. Murphy, F. Sims, and W. A. Trench attended the tour- nament at Port Perry on Wednesday afternoon. The tournament for the W. H. Legge cup will be held on Monday afternoon next with the two games in the afternoon and two in the evening Entries which are open to any mem- ber of the club will be received until Saturday by J. R.
