Brack, of \Vest Toronto and The sale of the Late Robert Brack was very largely attended by people from all over the county. It is said to have been one of the largest sales ever held in York County. On Thursday evening, March 10 L the Elia Trail Rangers held a social evening to which the sisters and friends of the boys were invited. The meeting was held in honor of George and Leonard Weaver who are leaving the neighborhood. After a pleasant time spent in games and ,contests and a jolly singâ€"song, a lunch was served. The regular euchre party of the Women’s Institute was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert C. Snider. There was a very large at- tendance and thirteen tables of eu- chre played. The winners were:â€" Ladies lst, Mrs. J. Carruthers; 2nd Elsie Buchanan; Gentleman 1st, Mr. Delbert Roe; 2nd Mr. Thomas Reid. The consolation prizes went to Miss Charlotte Snider and Mr. John Whit- taker. After lunch was served a col- lection was taken up and quite a sum realized. Women's Institute The Elia Women’s Institute held their regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. W. Stephenson on Wed- nesday afternoon, March 9th, with an unusually large attendance, Mrs. C. H. Snider, president, was in the chair, and Miss Mae Stephenson, ass- istant-secretary called the roll. The meeting opened with the “Institute Ode" followed by the business. Mrs. - J. Roe and Mrs. W. S. Snider read two very interesting poems, Mrs. J. B. Coates read, “The Life Of Miss Agnes McPhail” which proved to be very instructive. This was followed by short addresses from the district Ipresident, Miss L. McNeil of Wood- bridge and the district secretary, Miss J. McLellan, who were paying their annual visit to the branch. A contest arranged by Miss Kate Snid- er was won by Mrs. Sabine: Miss J. McLellan sang a much appreciated solo. The meeting closed with “God Save the King” followed by luncheon. . i . Interesting Meeting Victoria Chapter The Victoria Chapter Royal Arch Masons held their regular convoca- tion in the Masonic Hall, Thornhill on Wednesday, March 9th. A very large attendance of officers and companions were present. Right Excellent Companion Walter Hopkins gave a very interesting ad- dress on “Capitual Masonry." Alderman Baker of Toronto gave a very interesting address on “Civic Government by Commission” to the satisfaction of all present. A vote of thanks was proposed by Reeve Golm of Markham Township to Bro. Alderman Baker. Excellent companion Dr. C. E. Hill M. D., proposed a toast to the King. Right excellent Companion J. E. Francis, scribe E. proposed a toast to the visitors and Right Excellent companion W. E. Hopkins proposed a toast to the craft. Representatives were present from the following Blue Lodges, Richmond, Vaughan and Markham Union Lodges. Refreshments were served and the inusm was provided by the Thornliill 12 piece orchestra. Good Prices At Sales Farm stock sales in the district continue to bring exceptionally good returns and all lines of farm stock are reported to be demanding good prices. The sale of Hal Kirby, Thorn- hill, on Tuesday realized about $4000 some cattle selling as high as 8165. The sale of Harvey Ness in Markham Township on \Vednesday totalled 0v- er 55,000 with horses bringing high as $240 and cows up to $150. Prentice & Prentice, auctioneers-l had charge of both sales.
